Neuropsych assessment was eye opening
I am not sure how others felt after their assessment, but I sure left feeling down.
I could clearly see my areas of struggle and it is all stuff that a well educated person should easily know. When I look at my life before TBI to my life now I am still amazed. I couldn't remember how to multiply or divide! Interested to see the results, which I have no idea how long it will be. |
It can take anywhere between 2 weeks to 6 weeks to get the report from an NPA.
Yes, it can be quite an eye opener to have an organized and targeted test that exposes the struggling brain functions. It takes away the "oh, I just lost focus and messed up" and replaces it with "My brain is really messed up." The struggle to do mental tasks on demand and with a stop watch timing is a lot different than the occasional need to do math in the head with no time demand. Please try to be patient and sit back and wait for the report. I know it is difficult. The anxiety of waiting for the report is not good for the struggling brain. My best to you. |

Healing often takes time. As a data point to foster hope and optimism, I had a follow up NPA 3 months later, the result of which stated: “On examination, the patient demonstrated intact cognition in all domains assessed including learning and memory, attention, processing speed, language skills and executive functions. He has shown an excellent recovery from his severe injury only five months ago. From a cognitive standpoint there are no concerns with respect to the patient returning to work full time or returning to driving” BTW on both my NPA's the neuropsychologist went over the summary results at the end of the session, and I had the full report a couple of days later. Best to you as you continue to recover. |
