Atypical Facial Pain

After multiple doctor visits and tests to rule things out, I have been diagnosed with 'Atypical Facial Pain' and told there is nothing I can do but learn to control the pain.
I hurt almost all the time, can't sleep.....3 months of constant pain.
I'm on gabapentin, which makes me see double and feel dizzy and off-balance, but doesn't really take the pain away. It kind of makes my head feel numb. I also take .25 mg xanax 3 times a day; it seems to dull the pain.
I've used up my sick leave, but it's hard to work with the pain/drugs.

Also going to chiropractor and acupuncturist, but so far nothing has helped.

Any words of wisdom or suggestions?

Hello and welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I just read a couple of your other posts so I see you've found Chronic Pain forum.

May I ask where on your face you are experiencing the pain?

The pain is inside my ear, in front of my ear, in back of my ear, in the point of my jaw, down my neck.......etc.

Darlene,
Thanks so much for the kind words of welcome and the prayers. I surely need some divine assistance.
I keep seeing more and more specialists and trying more and more of their suggestions, but nothing is really helping.

I have tried everything as well with no success. What about Botox? The pain dr offered that and I am exploring that.

Panicked

This is my first time trying to connect online with trigeminal facial neuralgia. I was diagnosed in 2013 after having sharp pains on the left side of my face, the pain wasn't too bad until I went to the Dentist who started cleaning teeth with a drill which through me into a horrible attack that too me to the emergency room. I met with a Neurologist for the first time who suggested I start taking Tegratol (Carbemazapine) generic at 100 MG twice a day, I am now on 200 MG twice a day & holding without any more pain for now. The also recommended MRi's to try to eliminate any other problems such as a tumor, MS, etc. I was very afraid of my future & just didn't know where to turn, since NH is a small state very few have been diagnosed with Trigeminal Facial Neuralgia so no groups to meet with.
I am currently looking for a Dentist that treats patients like us but none on the list, i was still going to my prior Dentist who I thought understood my fears but he continued using a drill to clean rather than a pic so I am looking for a new one at this time. I am going to have to call randomly to find one that is treating any patients with this disease. I am looking for any thoughts or ideas in how you have all found someone to help you do your dental work & understand this problem. Thank You for your suggestions
