Is unclean skin/acne a sign of an inflammatory diet?
Hello there,
My question stands in the title above. I'll list up what I am currently eating: cucumber, radish, whole grain rice crispies, brown rice, dark chocolate(a few), raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, carrots, spinach, pastured Omega 3 eggs, oat flakes, pistachios, natural yogurt, raw organic honey(a few), maki with soya sauce, lean pork beef and chicken/turkey, rosemary, thyme, coriander, organic coconout oil, olive oil, rye whole grain bread, sea salt. Edit: I forgot balsamic vinegar, white beans, onions, cherries and pineapple That is basically everything I eat at the moment. |
One thing that can cause acne is high levels of testosterone. I take DHEA which can stimulate testosterone. If I take too much, my skin gets oily and may even break out. So, hormones can be an issue.
|
I wanted to add DHEA to my regimen soon. How much do you take?
But if it is not the testosterone, the food could be a reason? |
I take 1/4 of a 25 mg tablet of DHEA. When I took testosterone, my skin got oily and broke out.
|
Skin that breaks out may respond to flax oil. When you consume too much omega-6 fats (very common in cooking and vegetables)
you do not get omega-3's (alpha linolenic acid), then the excess-6's fuel inflammatory cytokines in the body and skin. I did this for my son, who had adolescent acne... we used flax oil along with his fish oil for his ADHD and his acne cleared up with a couple of months. Also zinc can help. Zinc is commonly lost by males thru the semen. So males can get skin conditions if the loss exceeds the intake. I read once that considerable amounts of zinc can be lost in ejaculations. This link gives values found in a testing of several men. http://molehr.oxfordjournals.org/content/5/4/331.full You can have your zinc/copper ratio tested, or you can take a mens' formula vitamin that has zinc in it. H2 blocking drugs (like Zantac) steroids diuretics hormones and ACE inhibitor drugs for blood pressure.. these all may reduce zinc in the body. Another thing that may help is the vitamin Biotin. At least 1mg a day. These all have some usefulness in reducing acne and other skin problems. |
I still have problems with acne unfortuneately. I always had them and I took isotretinoin for many years. It helped extremely well. I stopped taking it when my concussion happened.
now my question is - how bad are inflamminated pimples for the brain's recovery? If they have a neative effect I will start to take iso again |
Isotretinoin(Accutane) is extremely toxic to the body.
I believe it could complicate your recovery in some way. This drug taken during pregnancy destroys the development of the brain in the fetus leading anencephaly. It is used to treat certain neurological cancers in children ...therefore it is a chemo agent and destroys cells. It is likely doing something similar to adults who take it. Add in a TBI and you may expect to see slow healing or other effects. It has also been implicated in intracranial hypertension. Do a Google search... there are many sites over the years with studies etc. |
Thank you!
I would have done a big mistake by taking this. I tried to get rid of the skin inflamminations with a very strict diet. But it doesn't work. Should i be worried about them or are they no big deal for the recovery? |
It is difficult to say. Flax oil can really help acne. Consider it.
But I would seriously suggest you forget about isotretinoin forever. |
How is the rest of your skin in general as well as hair & nails ? dry , oily, patchy, rough, mixed oily & dry?
You might read about MSM supplements and how it may benefit a body. https://www.google.com/search?q=MSM+...MSM+supplement Also read about apple cider vinegar (with the mother - very beneficial overall) https://www.google.com/search?q=appl...ith+the+mother might be worth a try.. Oh and if you know your blood type, you might want to read about the blood type diets and see if there a re better foods for your type , or if some you are eating now might not be beneficial for you.. I don't 100% follow this , but I did notice some foods on my blood type "not good" list that have given me problems over the years. And many on the good list do make me feel better, so there must be something to it... His books have been out for many years and can be found in libraries or even thrift stores as well as the info online.. http://www.dadamo.com/ |
