How long does sickness last with post concussion?

Hi, I was informed by doctors that I have post concussion. I am a cheerleader and a girl landed on my head and ever since then I have been vomiting everyday and it has now been 3 weeks. Can anyone offer any advice on how long this will last?
Thanks

ellie_may10,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so.

It is rare for someone to continue vomiting for 3 weeks after a concussion. It is not uncommon to experience nausea for weeks but not more that just a nauseous feeling. Does your doctor know you are continuing to vomit ?

If your doctor does not know you are continuing to vomit, you need to call the doctor right away or even be seen at an urgent care clinic or emergency room.

Have you had a CT Scan of your head ?

Welcome Ellie_may10,

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time. I hope you do contact your doctor as suggested. That sounds really extreme.

This is a very supportive board and a lot of us have gone through or are going through PCS. Please keep reaching out for support. It can be a long road, but you are not alone! :)

Julie

I had a CT scan initially on my first visit, and after a week of vomiting I rang my GP who sent me back to hospital where I had another CT scan. Both came back fine. And the doctor advised me that I have post concussion

I had another CT scan after my doctor informed me to go back to the hospital, but all came back clear. I was informed by the doctor that it is just post concussion after doing other tests also.
thanks for your reply :)

There is a saying, If you have seen on brain injury, you have seen one brain injury. It sounds like your injury is outside the normal range of symptoms.

Are you having any problems with anxiety ? Anxiety can cause nausea. Anxiety is a very common concussion symptom.

Not as far as im aware. I have never suffered with anxiety before. I was completely fine didn't even feel ill and about 20 mins after my head injury I vomited and have continued to do so since.

Hello ellie_may,
welcome to NeuroTalk.

If you have been vomiting 3 weeks post concussion continually, you really need to speak with your doctor again asap. Apart from obvious problems with dehydration, the doctor could perhaps give you something to stop the vomiting. Are you dizzy at all?

No. In myself I feel well I just keep vomiting when I eat and drink. I was given anti sickness tablets at the hospital so have been taking those but they don't always work

Did they check for any damage to your neck? I'm just wondering if it could be caused by that type of damage. Also, CT scans don't really show anything except if you have a brain bleed. My husband doctor doesn't recommend one for him at all since he never had any symptoms of bleeding on the brain. If his issues go on he will get a spect scan or a functional MRI. I might see a chiropractor if I were you. Damage in the back and neck can affect the gut.
