Cervical Ribs and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Hello,
I'm a 44-year-old male with cervical ribs on both sides (with the right side being far more severe.) While I've had difficulty with the ribs my entire life, the last three months have seen a drastic increase in pain and difficulty using my arms and hands. I am a bassist with a handful of orchestras and ensembles, and as of this last Easter weekend, am no longer able to play. The issue has progressed to the point where I can no longer hold my bow for any duration of time. Several doctors have been consulted over the years, consistently suggesting the ribs be left alone. My research to date suggests those who have cervical ribs removed often suffer even greater pain and difficulties. Yesterday, I spoke with a doctor who disputed those findings, and recommended having the ribs removed (this doctor is retired, and would have nothing to gain by advising to pursue the procedure.) At this time, the pain and progressive loss of use of my arms, hands, and fingers is taking a tremendous toll on my life. I'm looking for guidance in pursuing a treatment for this problem (beyond the exercises, stretches, and chiropractic care I'm already implementing.) Thank you, Waylon J. |

You need to find a TOS expert, usually the surgery to remove the extra cervical ribs has better results than those with unknown cause of TOS.
But best surgeon you can get is always a good idea.. Our TOS forum- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum24.html sticky threads - DOCTORS & PTs List and saved PT info threads - http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread135.html |
