Al Roker Jokes about Epilepsy on the TODAY show

Looks like no one has posted anything about this subject matter, so I'll start it.

Take a trip to this website and listen to what Al Roker said on the NBC Today Show last week. Go ahead...I'll wait.

http://media.putfile.com/Al-Roker-Jo...the-TODAY-show

Pretty something, you think? So, what I'm hoping for is to get more people to stand up for those of us who have epilepsy, in hopes of either getting Al removed for NBC; or...force him to do a documentary about epilepsy and have it aired on TV in the evening hours where people could actually watch it.

Here's a website to a website link to the 'Disipline Al Roker for Epilepsy Comments' http://www.petitiononline.com/NBCROKER/petition.html
My signature name and comment is #213

Birdbomb, I didn't know which section to post this on your VNS Message Board, so if it's okay with you could you post something like this on your message board? Thanks

Ranman I do appriciate your concern but I think people should read this FIRST about
ON-LINE PETITIONS!

Besides that public people like Al Roker, Imas, Tom Cruse or anyone else can and will say things that may offend someone at sometime. IMHO people are too damn sensitive and take offence at ignorant statements. Just consider the source and pick your battles wisely.

Can't fix stupid.

Roker said on the Thursday's Today show, "Remember that controversial Olympic logo for the 2012 Olympics in London? Some folks have complained that the campaign actually sent them into epileptic seizures. Others say it's just downright ugly. Well, we asked you to weigh in on our Web site in an informal poll; and those of you who could get up off the floor after shaking around..."

Then on Thursday's 'Today' show (June 7th), around 8:04 a.m. while he was delivering a weather report from Milwaukee, Al said "I started joking about it. I want to make this clear - I was not joking about epilepsy or anyone who suffers from epilepsy. We understand and know that this is a serious affliction and would never joke about that. We were joking about the logo - not about epilepsy. If anybody was offended, I heartily and really humbly apologize. Today's poll showed that 80 percent of viewers thought the logo was inappropriate."

Well if he "claims" that he was not joking about epilepsy or anyone who suffers from it, then we need to ask, Who exactly were you refering to when you said " ...those of you who could get up off the floor after shaking around"?[/I]

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets away with what he did.

Donna, my username is batman (aka Bruce), and you and I have each other for several years now. :winky: I checked the snopes link you posted and am thinking that it was for the circulation of e-mail petitions, rather that the one at PetitionOnline.com. Unless you know something about them that I don't. If that PetitionOnline.com isn't going to be helpful, do you have any suggestions that might be helpful?

My appologies about the name Bruce, I looked at it wrong, Having vision problems because of the RA.:Sorry:

A more direct approach to Al Roker himself would be more effective than an on-line petiton. Send an email to him

It was a stupid $h!thead thing to say. Look what happened to Imus over his stupid comment, or Isaiah Washington's remark and what just happened to him. How are they any different?

LIZARD   :(

Hi,
I found out yesterday that my epi was on the committee to stop the bright logo from going up because he stated that it will cause sz. for those that are photosensitive. I'm sure if my epi gets the info. about what Al Roker said he will stand up and fight him all the way. Al also better look at the famous people who have epilepsy because they might get on his back also. Here's wishing all of you well and May God Bless You!

It would be nice if Al Roker would actually talk about
Epilepsy, he does Food Shows and other Shows besides
Weather Report ...

Why not teach him and turn him into an ADVOCATE for
EPILEPSY instead of someone to loathe at?

Just my humble opinion ....

Your opinion is very good Sharon.
