Post concussion syndrome
I have suffered a concussion, going down a ride in a swimming pool. I lost consciousness and have about 20 min of post shock amnesia. I still do not remember now what happened. As funny as it sounded at first, I am now stuck with many if not all the PCS symptoms. I find it very difficult to carry out a sequence of actions to achieve one purpose. Like getting juice when somebody asks for a drink, etc. I also have very high irritability levels, anger, and feel very down at times. My sleep is weird, because I hear all the things around me but still cannot wake up, and sleep seems very deep. Is this normal?
After 2 weeks (about now) after the accident I developed joint pain - pain in the wrists, elbows, ankles, etc. Doctors here do not prescribe anything for concussion. I had a box of Vitamine B12 (500ug) from a bio store in London, which I am taking daily. Is this a good dose? And also after reading a bit, bought in a pharmacy a complete vitamin and mineral supplement - Biocure Megatone LA with ginkgo. Please advice on the vitamine supplements that I can take. |

Hi Liza,
While you say Doctors don't rx for PCS here, check out this site: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Concuss...lications.aspx Your Depression, irritability, Anxiety are all symptoms which NEED to be treated - even in the short term - by Therapy or meds - before they become rooted and develop into a greater problem. Others here will know more about your condition and the particular use of Migraine meds mentioned. Don't be fobbed off with no treatment when help is needed and available. Speak to your GP. Dave. |
no medicine/vitamines prescribed
Thanks Dave,
I am actually just across the Chanel, but I am less lucky with the doctors here. I have called on numerous occasions doctors at the hospital where my injury (concussion) was first diagnosed, they just tell me to rest at home. And if symptoms persist after 6 weeks, then to come back to them. This is quite unnerving, as you are experiencing new symptoms popping up and you would like to take action to cure them. I am very grateful for all the vitamin advice and will try and follow it. What Migrane medicine did you mean? Thanks again |
Hi Liza,
It was just this quote from the NHS site about Migraine meds for headaches, and the rest: Treating PCS There is no specific treatment for the symptoms of PCS, though many medications used to treat migraines have also proved effective in treating the headaches caused by PCS. Antidepressants and*talking treatments such as psychotherapy may help*control the psychological symptoms, such as depression and anxiety. If you Post on the TBI and PCS Forum the expert Members there will be able to point you in the right direction. Dave. |
