are there any safe AntiBiotics
Greetings:
My severe SFN was either caused by a flare of HSV2 or long-term (prescribed) use of Macrodantin/Nitrofurantoin. I am supposed to take an Abx post coital ( now ) or I will guaranteed get a UTI... I have thought all this time that the SFN was an HSV2 complication, but just realized-that the earliest symptoms started prior....coincidental with a long Macrobid course. CIPRO is definitely out for me, after many courses of that, it caused a psoriasis flare years ago. This is only part of my complicated story... but in the meantime, Abx recommendations? thanks. |
Have you had any genetic testing done by chance? Or do you know what it means to be a non-secretor?
If you're a non-secretor like I am, you are much more susceptible to UTIs, especially if you're a B or AB blood type. Regardless, I've had more UTIs than I care to remember, and I'm a type A. Have you tried this stuff? It helps a lot of people...just read the reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Cleartract-D-M.../dp/B0007DHM9M ____________________ |
i get frequent respiratory infections and use either Biaxin or two courses of z paks (one doesnt cut it) and dont notice any side effects neurologically. no more fluoroquinolones for me...levaquin, avelox etc.

I just went through a course of Augmentin and had zero side effects plus it cleared up my sinuses.

For UTI's there are few non PN causing agents.
1) Keflex or Duricef may work 2) Doxycycline may work... 3) Bactrim or Septra DS-- this is a sulfa drug and some people become allergic to it. Must use lots of water when using this drug. All these 3 are not on PN lists, but they do upset the bowel...so attention to probiotics is important with them. But really you should get a culture done and sensitivity test. Many bacteria become resistant when you take antibiotics over and over. The neuropathy from nitrofurantoin shows in studies to be temporary after discontinuance. |
Why were you taken antibiotics in the first place. continued use of antibiotics will cause secondary infections of fungus, or resistant bacteria, gastrointesitinal infections are common after abx treatments.(sometimes).
Hsv2 is a virus, antibiotics have no effect on them. |

She has a problem with recurrent UTIs which are usually E coli infections and horribly painful and unpleasant.
Per Mayo, these are the antibiotics commonly prescribed: Sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (Bactrim, Septra, others) Amoxicillin (Amoxil, Augmentin, others) Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin, Macrodantin, others) Ampicillin Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) Levofloxacin (Levaquin) http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-c...t/con-20037892 Quote:
