improved brain blood flow through accupuncture

I will probably start a therapy in one week. I will visit a doc for TCM. He told me that the brain itself is not one of the parts where TCM is known to work, like a tennis ellbow. It is more an experiment for him as well, as he never had a case like me. So he did not seem 100% sophisticated.

I asked him what i could expect from accupuncture. He said the healing could be improved by setting positive stimulations through accupuncture, in special improve the brains blood flow. I would certainly give this a try, if the doc wasn't out of town, and each visit is quite an exhausting trip for me.

What do you think?

What is TCM ? Traditional Chinese Medicine ?

Studies have shown little value to acupuncture for PCS except maybe head aches and even head aches are a crap shoot. .

I just tried acupuncture two days ago. and was disappointed. It barely changed my headache at all, which was the reason I went. The experience itself wasn't unpleasant though and I'm glad I gave it a shot, but won't be going back

Yes, TCM means traditional chinese medicine.

what about the blood flow in general. Does higher mean better?

The doc told me that 7 sessions should make an improvement, so I doubt that you see a major success after one.

Acupuncture has been very successful in calming my anxiety and lessening my fatigue. I have been having treatments every 2 weeks, sometimes a month apart for the last 3 years.

I don't know about the hows and whys of blood flow to the brain but my acupuncturist treats the whole body not just one specific part (like the brain). His therapy has kept me off anti-depressants and anxiety meds and now that I have been diagnosed with PTSD as well as PCS, he is tweaking his treatments accordingly.

Acupuncture works on a cumulative basis - so just going to one treatment will not be an accurate picture of whether it is going to be effective or not. For myself I noticed small improvements over time - 3 days anxiety free then 7 then 2 weeks eventually. For me, less anxiety means I have more energy and a reduction in my fatigue levels generally means less severe headaches. This is how accupuncture works for me.

For anybody thinking about trying accupuncture, you need to find the most highly qualified practitioner that you can. And be aware that every person does not get the same results - for some it doesn't work but for me, the results are amazing.
