Interesting news article - Brain Inflammation
This article came in via the Health New Headlines Forum today.
I thought I'd post in light of some of the more recent posts regarding inflammation. PsychCentral News Inflammation Seems to Underlie Concussion Symptoms McMaster News It doesn't take a brain injury to have headache, dizziness and cognitive impairment Published: May 6, 2015 from Science Direct A review of the neuro- and systemic inflammatory responses in post concussion symptoms: Introduction of the “post-inflammatory brain syndrome” PIBS Brain, Behavior, and Immunity Volume 46, May 2015, Pages 1–16 |
Interesting article. They say "So even in a situation where there is no obvious visible brain injury on conventional imaging scans, physicians may be able to still offer treatments that target inflammatory mediators."
I just read a report on DTI (Diffusion Tensor Imaging) that shows a direct correlation between cognitive mTBI/concussion symptoms and changes in white matter. They found that in concussions with prolonged symptoms, there is a change in how water moves through the brain's white matter. In the injured brains, the water does not move through the white matter as well as in healthy brains. I wonder if this change in water movement is part of the inflammation. Here is the report on MedScape http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/836164 The promising part is this will help people with PCS to show they have a true injury versus a psychosomatic injury like so many professionals claim. |
So what is the treatment for this then? I did not see anything mentioned in the articles pertaining to treatment for the inflammation.
How does one help this heal? |
Some promote an anti-inflammatory diet. A Paleo/Mediterranean diet like the Wahl protocol or Dr Weill's diet.
