Titanium + autoimmune + CRPS 2
 

I've had a flare weekend....:o But it got me thinking about my immune system... it has to be weak in order for the CRPS be spreading....and I thought healthier living...which led me to think...if I have titanium in my body; no matter what I do I can't really think I can control the monster?? I mean I will always try to keep this monster at bay but my titanium can't be removed so...I will always have a toxin in me and .....any thoughts.....:grouphug:

It must be in the water, I have been in flare as well. Poop.

I just looked at a website called Melisa, they do allergy testing for metals, etc. Says titanium is non-toxic but 4% of people are allergic to it. Also other metals may be put in with it to varying degrees. They say you can find out the composition of an implant before you get it and they will test for allergy to the components. As if people have a chance to do that when they go in for emergent ortho surgery due to fracture. Still kinda cool....

Sorry to read about you water too...:wink: Yeah I read that too...I even called the company who sells the titanium which I had placed in me...(No, no this time a while back....) and they said that a small amount...know I know 4%:) can be allergic....the medical facility never asked if I was allergic but I guess that's the least of my worries....

I thought about having my son tested for metal allergy before the CRPS diagnosis, but I think I read that skin tests can't always correspond to how a person reacts to implanted titanium and other metals, so I wasn't sure it was worth it. Wouldn't the need to be poked with needles for the skin test be bad for CRPS?

For me, blood work hurts more than it should...I am just curious...IF titanium effects the immune system and CRPS can be spread due to autoimmune issues...are they related.... thanks for the input....:hug:

I had problems with my titanium IM Nail. The nail was put in my tibia, and after that point the whole entire bone simply ached day-in, and day-out. My surgeon who was against removing the nails because of the location (not like plates) decided in my case it was time - 14 months post accident.

When I had it removed the deep aching in my bone did go away, but I'm still left with other problems. One reason they use titanium is because it's a metal most are able to tolerate, but there are a few who simply can't tolerate anything =(
