stiff muscles

Are stiff muscles a part of neuropathy? My muscles are tightening up. It feels like they are getting shorter. Everyday activities like bending over to pick something up really stretches my back. My forearms, calves and back are so tight.

I am going to hazzard it depends on the person, but my calf muscles are a mess, from ankle to hip I have spasms, spasticity and last week a charley horse. I eat a banana daily, water is a dear friend, I stretch, self massage, heat on the rare occassion it is not too much.

I have bad and worse days. I have found success mostly lies in distracting myself. When not with clients I can plug in and process work. Leg kicks up to my lap and stretching commences.

In the past I have tried myscle relaxers, but the daily part was a turn off. I was taking more medicine at that time. I may consider approaching them again if things stay so taut.

Hi Canagirl,

Could some of it be because you, yourself are hypertense, never relaxing physically or mentally? Especially with shaking all the time, and the subliminal fear of being hurt more.

I have real problems with the large muscles in my thighs and back for these very reasons.

Dave.

Yes my muscles everywhere are tighter than ever. It definitely has to do with what ever process is going on in my body. I was very flexible before I "came down with this". I still stretch everyday but it causes wild muscle twitches and strangeness.

That's what happens to me when I stretch too. I haven't heard of anyone complaining about that before. Glad to know I'm not crazy

I'm sure that contributes to it. I have been thinking about muscle relaxers. Anybody have experience ? Dangers of them? Benefits?

Canagirl,

I have no experience of muscle relaxers myself so I only know what I read. I find this independent article interesting:

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2...city/index.htm

Make up your own mind with Physician's guidance - check for contra-indications before use -and read the personal experiences of users.

Wishing you a fruitful search,

Dave.

For me they made me sleep and feel groggy the next day...the pain was still there too....:grouphug:

For me- Flexiril did nothing
baclofen- 20 mg, light effectiveness- instead of titrating up they tried Valium, which worked best, but they wanted daily usage and I just didn't find that agreeable.

Today is a day where that thought gets reconsideration.

Advil is a muscle relaxer but not so strong as other types that almost put you down. Ultra sound heat was good for me as well.
