GREAT 2012 video, 10 myths about l-dopa, must view! Dr. Eric Ahlskog

http://www.cno.parkinson.ca/site/c.j...sons_Video.htm
parkinson's society central and northern arizpna

old timer, written at least 2 books on pd, initially talks about pd in general and history of L-DOPA, gets to the meat and potatoes around 17minutes into video.
also discusses agonists and azilect.

obviously he's a fan of l-dopa and obviously not being paid by a drug company
not a fan of CR, it works but too variable for many, must take with food, he doesn't state exactly what but has to be low in protein, in Q&A mentioned toast without butter or marg.,crackers, 1/2 banana, fruit - (flour is 10% protein?) good drug if you can get a predicatable response.

major point made is people who are undermedicated progress faster than those that aren't, implication is undermedicated people don't exercise enough.

interesting discussion of constipation in q&a, no magic bullet but makes suggestions at start of Q&A
dose up in 1/2 increments, no benefit over 3tablets.

i only watched watched one other video, the duodopa and dbs video, it was quite interesting but likely only if if you are considering either. briefly referred to the study showing some younger pd'ers seemed to do better getting dbs than the group on drugs but there is also the risk of surgery to consider.

the webinar section and lunch with sally might be interesting, actually whole website is worth investigating.

Cheaper, Simpler, and Better: Tips for Treating Seniors With Parkinson Disease

"A good working knowledge of carbidopa/levodopa principles should allow excellent care of most patients, at least during the early years of the disease. Even later, when levodopa responses become more complicated (eg, dyskinesias, motor fluctuations, insomnia, anxiety), levodopa adjustments may be all that is necessary. A dozen tips for optimizing treatment of Parkinson disease are discussed herein."
