Nortriptyline
Hello,
I spoke to my doctor tonight and expressed my concern about relying about Oxycodone to sleep every night for the past two months. He said that he wasn't that concerned because I only take it at night but nonetheless said we can try a different drug at night for sleep. He called in Nortriptyline and said I am to take one pill at night. He said it should help with sleep. I am still taking the Lyrica 100 mg three times a day. Has anyone had any experiences with Nortriptyline? I feel like all I do is take drugs, I hate it! By the way, I feel like the Lyrica has done nothing as I am still in constant pain. The shooting pain brings me to my knees! Thanks |
I take nortriptyline and find it to be moderately helpful. I did not do well on neurontin, it helped but killed my mood. The nortriptyline does help with sleep and does help with my stinging pain. If I could tolerate a higher dose it probably would work better but I had to decrease due to dizziness. I started on 25mg before bed but went down from there. It came out in a pain study for neuropathic pain the people have better relief from a lower dose of both an opioid and another med like TCAs together than either med alone.
I hope you find relief soon. Sending Healing Love, Littlepaw  |
I take 60mg of Nortriptyline in a split dose, which really tends to make me feel tired out. When upping my dose, it tended to interrupt my sleep pattern. When starting out, my Neuro had me on 25mg, which had my hands shaking like I had Parkinson's. He then reduced my dose, & over 2 years I have slowly upped it with no further incidence. The Nortrip helps me with numbness & pins and needles, mainly. I also take 50mg of Tramadol, in the AM, which relieves foot pain, the achiness and some more of the numb feeling. On "busier days" I'll take 100 mg. I'm more comfortable & stable on my feet, with the combination.
My pain has increased over the course of 4 years, but I'm 65 and am grateful that I'm doing as well as I am, but My PC Dr says he's had better luck with Cymbalta than Nortriptyline, & that drug kind of scares me. And if you're wondering about the 2 & 4 years, I turned down medication for the 1st 16 months, and then went to my Neuro & tried gabapentin for "another worldly" trip. |
I took up to 50mg of nortriptyline. I didn't think it was doing much for my burning and pain but as I decrease the dose I realize it was doing more than I thought. I was told to go off because my vision was blurry. I am currently on 20mg and I noticed quite a bit of difference between 30 and 20mg. I did not help with my sleep at all. However, when I added gabapentin, I did start to sleep a bit better. Still not great sleep, I wake up about 6-10 times a night but I am able to get back to sleep. Before, I would wake up 2 hours after going to bed then I would be up for the rest of the night.
