Hello :)
My name is Jan and I am a 44 year old wife and Mom. I am unsure which forum to post in so I thought I would post here and see if anyone has anything similar. Last year in Nov. I had what was Dx as a TIA or migraine. They were unsure. I spent the next 2 months with slurred speech, balance issues,no appetite, and fatigue. I have had every test, MRI,MRA,CT scan and blood work with everything coming back negative. Which is great except I have been having stroke like symptoms every month when I ovulate until my menstrual cycle begins. I am now having muscle and joint pain particularly in my upper arms. I have discussed with my neuro and regular GP but all they want is to give me antidepressants. I am not opposed to them but I am normal 3 weeks out of 5 so I am frustrated not to be taken seriously. I am seeing a new neurologist soon and my GP Friday. Please let me know if you have had or have heard of anything like this. Thank you

Hello Jan,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups. :) I'm sorry for the reasons that bring you here. I'll post a couple of links below to Headache (includes Migraines) and Stroke forums. There is not one specifically for TIAs. Headache Forum Stroke subforum I don't know what type of antidepressant you've been prescribed but I do know that sometimes a tricyclic antidepressant (e.g. Amitriptyline) is prescribed for migraine prevention and it seems to be the one that's been studied the most. You could check in PubMed if you want to find out more about the particular medication that has been prescribed for you. e.g. type in name of medication and migraine. Migraines are very strange and varied. I get them myself but haven't ever had symptoms for as long as you describe. That would be very concerning. I found this site, that I'm posting below, recently when I was looking for something for myself. It has a lot of great information about different types of migraines and research articles. Really worth a look. :) http://www.hacoop.org/professionals.html I hope you find some answers and can start to feel better soon, take care. |
