Feeling faint when bending down

Hi my name is Pasquale, the reason for me to be here it's because I have been getting very light headed when I bend over.
I ended up in the hospital with severe light headednes. I tough I would faint.
They did extensive blood work and everything came back perfect. My blood pressure was 110 over 54. They wanted to discharge me but I insisted in iv fluids.
I got a litter and it took only 25 minutes for my body to absorb it, even though they said it would take an hour. That toe it showed that I was extremely dehydrated.y blood pressure got better.
Because of this event I now have extreme fear of fainting. Can anyone here help me figure it out to what is wrong with me. I going to see a Neurologists next week.
Please someone out there ease my mind.

Hi Pasquale

Welcome to NeuroTalk.

I am not a health professional but what you have described sounds like orthostatic hypotension to me.

There are many possible reasons for it - they are discussed here; http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-c...n/con-20031255.

I hope that the info there might help when you see the neurologist.

All the best.

Hi, I would make sure potassium and magnesium levels are in good levels...I had a friend who would pass out and when she got to the ER, her potassium levels were in the tank...they had to do IV's of potassium. She avoided salts with a passion, and we need salts but need to hydrate .... I have a water bottle everywhere in my house. Your BP is on the low side, I have another friend with really low BP and she feels faint a lot of the time. Take care and good wishes. C

I keep on top of all my lab reports and when I see I'm on the low end of the ranges, I take all that into consideration.

I have had both of these conditions since adolescence, mostly POTS but a little vasovagal syncope as well when I was younger. Several people in my family have it, one of my nieces who is now a nurse, fainted every time she got an injection when she was a child. :) I had the worst problems trying to move around too soon after I got up in the morning, I still have that to a lesser degree. Its always been pretty normal for me to get dizzy bending over to one degree or another.

Has your blood pressure always been so low? If I remember correctly they consider a diastolic blood pressure below 50 to be low, you are above that and a doctor probably would not consider 54 clinically significant but it might be a little too low for you. I agree with the earlier posters that the first step is to be sure you are hydrated and not low on salt or minerals. Are you hungry when it happens, that can also be a trigger. If the weather is very warm where you live you could be dehydrated, etc and not be aware of it.

Do you have vertigo when it happens, does the room actually seem to spin or are you just light headed and feel dizzy? Vertigo can be a sign of an inner ear disorder such as Menier's Disease, I have a little e of that too.

There are a few serious disorders that could be causing it but many more that are benign. Try hydrating, wearing a hat outdoors, etc and try to notice what else is going on besides bending when it occurs.

Good luck and don't worry.
