Very itchy skin
My lower legs have been a bit swollen lately and ever since, my skin from the ankles up to the knee joint is very dry and itchy. Have tried using skin moisturizer to no avail.
Does anyone have a good remedy to relieve itchy skin. Thank You |
You can try soaking in lukewarm bath water that has epsom salts added. This often makes skin softer. The warm water will move off the upper epidermis which may be causing the itching.
Use about 6oz of epsom salts in lukewarm water...Don't use HOT as it will cause burning. If you have broken skin in lots of places don't use the epsom salts. Just soak in the warm water. |
For moisturizing and extreme dryness I think plain jojoba oil is the best.
If the skin looks irritated, you can fill up a bowl with water and put a few drops of tea tree oil and rub it all over your legs with a washcloth before applying the jojoba. You could also alternate with Gold bonds medicated powder to see if it relieves the itch feeling. |
Thank you for the responses. To late on not scratching the legs and now there open skin. But I still got some Epsom salts and poured about 5 cups in some hot bath water. I would welcome any pain from the salts over the insufferable itch. I mean it is really bad.
So I take it will take more than one soaking with the salt to get the itch to go away. The itch is still there and there was no pain from the open skin (maybe because the legs are a bit numb) @Health girl - will try your remedy next if the salts don't do it. Could not bear the itch any longer so applied a generous amount of desonide ointment 0.5% to the legs. I have used this ointment before on another area of my skin which was itching but for a different reason but did fix the itch and the problem as well. So hope it works with the legs. |

5 cups!
6 oz ( three quarters of a cup) is plenty. Too much will Draw fluid out of your skin instead of hydrate it. |
Well woke up this morning itch free. I guess between the salt bath and the desonide ointment it must have removed a few layers of skin. I can actually fell a bit of burning from the open skin, that itself is a relief.
Thank you for the salt recommendation mrsD even though I did not follow your direction, I do believe it still worked. And thank you to all others for their suggestions, I will try them as well as I am sure once the skin heals the itch may be back ( I hope not). Thanks again. |
