Cipralex / Lexapro / Escitalopram
 

A new addition to my pile of pills.
My doctor recommended this, at a low dose, because she is concerned that I am heading for depression. She did say it is not surprising given the many changes to all aspects of my life as a result of a fall.

Has anyone had success with this one?

Many on here would know this as Lexapro. I know some have used it. Maybe they will see your post.

My daughter who doesn't have PCS (I'm the PCS person) just started Lexapro a few weeks ago for crippling anxiety. It's usually prescribed for Depression or Anxiety. She found it very difficult for the first week. She's only on a very low dose of 10mg and staying at that. She is feeling unbelievably better just in a few short weeks.

As I said, the first week was difficult. She also contracted a cold virus during that week and that made things harder perhaps.

The one thing I noticed in my searching for info about Lexapro was that there is a massive list of other medications and such that can't be taken at the same time. That included many over the counter cold meds for example, and she can't take her Tryptophan anymore... Just letting you know.

It's really worthwhile using the drug interaction checker considering you say you're taking a "pile of pills" :)

Lara - I hope it helps. I'm on a very low dose (5mg) for a week to help with adjusting to symptoms, then 10mg. I'm glad to hear it helped your daughter. I'm nervous about another pill, and I have some bias with anti depressants because I watched my Dad struggle with them.

The pharmacist told me no Advil or other anti inflamitories, and checked my other meds. I will double check as well.

I'm a fellow Canadian as well : ) Regarding Cipralex, I tried it (12.5 mg if I remember correctly, but my memory is terrible these days) but didn't have much success with it. However, other than a day or two of worse headaches, I had no serious side-effects.

I'm sure there are others who have tried it with hopefully a better result. After all, everyone likely responds uniquely to A/Ds.

Aelfaba, Just wanted to add something.
My daughter had a good couple of weeks on this trial of the Lexapro (for anxiety), but is feeling not so great again. She is due to fill a new script this week and the last one she filled she asked for the generic due to cost, however, she's done a little investigating and found that people are saying they don't find the generic works as well. This is obviously just anecdotal but just thought I'd mention it to you. I hope you're doing well. take care.
