Hypnosis for pain management
 

A new research article came out today in regards to hypnosis for pain management. In this article they prove that hypnosis works very good on acute pain. I have also had wonderful luck using hypnosis on chronic pain. Arthritis and Fibro being the two most common for my office.

Rick,
thanks for trying to help us. However, most of us have been down so many roads already to alleviate chronic pain we are probably skeptical of yet another dead end.
I did try hypnosis many years ago. During the first encounter it seemed to help for a very brief period of time. However, the next time it did not work at all.
When you are in such pain it is difficult to do hypnosis as you cannot get your mind off the pain.

It's nice to meet you! I did go and read the study your link lead me to, and it was a bit interesting. But I would have to say that overall, I have to agree with Sydney. Those of us who live with chronic pain have been so swamped with recent research, and given so many blind promises, that it's really hard for us to take any one report very seriously.

Not long ago I read another report in which fMRI images and patient responses were also used to prove that doing a simple puzzle, or carrying on a conversation, also lowered the levels of perceived pain. It claimed that the human spinal cord is capable of carrying a finite amount of information, and that by using up this capacity with other tasks, there was less "room" for the pain to get through.

I will never stop reading these articles, as I consider them a part of my ongoing research into pain. But it's very hard to get excited by any one of them. I thank you for trying to help, though, and hope you understand...
