blurry vision and rsd

hi all. this past year i have had trouble with my vision. when i try to read or type a little i start to get blurry vision in both of my eyes so bad to the point that i have to stop typing or reading. it eventually subsides after about two hours but hen starts again. my pm dr thinks the increase in gabapentin maye causing this but i have since gotten astigmatism in both eyes and seen flashing lights from time to time which my eye dr said can be due to rsd. just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they think causes it and how they make it better. thanks for listening. its really starting to scare me that my eyes are now being affected by rsd.

Hi RSD ME,
Yep! CRPS does cause one's vision to go blurry at times. I too suffer from this. Usually when I try reading or typing like you.
The answer given to me by my neurologist was tension of the nerves in the eyes and it's something that people with CRPS have to deal with.
Sounds to me like there's nothing that we can do.
Be well...:grouphug:

hi russell. thanks for the info about rsd and eyes. i didn't know all of that stuff. though i am not happy that rsd is affecting our eyes, i am glad that i at least know someone who understands what is going on. i appreciate you taking the time to let me know why my vision is becoming more and more blurry. hopefully our rsd will go into remisson and our eyes and bodies will be healthy again. thanks again. soft hugs.

It is coincidental you mentioned these symptoms because I just went to the eye doc for the exact same issues. The eye doc has me doing eye lubricant drops 3x a day(called Refresh by Optive....he gave me lots of samples because it is expensive). Also, a very thick one at night before bed. He said we start with the assumption of dry eyes because he said they looked irritated, and then go from there. I like this eye doc, he is practical and before sending me off to expensive eye specialist and thousands in tests, he starts simply. It has helped a bit but I am now stopping reading the second the blurriness starts. previously, I had foolishly kept pushing myself and reading/squinting/closing one eye until everything was a blur ...I know, pretty dumb.

I dont take Neurontin but the similar drug Lyrica, but a very small dose, only 100 mg a day. Have not increased in awhile.

I have an astigmatism as well...have a prism in my eyeglasses that is extremely helpful. Doc also put anti glare on my glasses and it was like a miracle for driving in the sun and night.

I hope you find a solution for the blurriness.....I know it is concerning.
My best, Diandra

Hi RSD ME, Russ, Diandra and everyone,

My vision problems come mainly from another source, double vision caused by a big brain lesion, but I also get blurry.

I think, of all my conditions, this one has robbed me of the most independence and enjoyment in the shortest time.

I am truly sorry for anyone with vision issues. Make sure you see your Optician/Specialist regularly and take as much care of your sight as you can.

Dave.

thanks diandra for your great info and advice. my eye dr gave me drops too to use but i still have blurriness in both eyes when i look at computer screen for more then a half an hour. i have to stop for about an hour or two to get my vision back to normal. i have had to have to neurontin increased to 2400 mg daily and that hasn't helped my vision either but the eye dr said it was probably due to the rsd too since i have seen flashing lights several times as well in my eyes but no detached or torn retinas thank goodness. it is very scary indeed to have rsd affect the eyes but i am trying to not overdue it with them when i am on computer. i can't type that much anyway being that the rsd started in my hand and wrist. i haven't driven in almost a year since my rsd started to spread to all my limbs and eyes. between the rsd pain and all the pain meds my dr prescribes to me for my rsd pain, i am unable to drive safely anymore and depend on my husband to take me to all of my dr appts and pharmacy. and every now and then the diner down the road for dinner to get out a little. it took a while to get used to this, but i've learned to deal with it. anyway, thanks again to all for your advice. i'm sorry you all have blurry vision too due to rsd and hope that a cure is found soon for rsd so that we can be healthy again. soft hugs to all.
