i have bipolar lus seizure like activity in brain . i started using gabapentin and then suddenly gabapentin gave me insomnia for 18 hours and depression while the seizure symproms are gone completely . is that a normal thing to have insomnia from gabapentin . and it is written in the leaflet if u develop insomnia from gaba stop the medication and contact ur Doc . so any idea guys and if gaba pentin does that . will lyrica do that as well ?

:Wave-Hello: Labyrinth,

Most people find gabapentin relaxing or even sedating, so I'd say no, your reaction is not common, and you should definitely call your doctor.

I am glad it controlled the seizure activity, or appeared to. It is clear though that it causes some other issue.

It is hard to predict whether Lyrica will cause the same reaction, even if it is a very similar medication. It may. It might be worth trying but your doctor will have to decide if that is safe for you.

Welcome, and good luck! :)

Hi,

Call the doctor. He or she needs to know.

It is not an expected reaction to have insomnia with Gabapentin.

Let us know what the doc says.

I was on gabapentin for a few years for fibromyalgia. Got to were I didn't
or don't need it. So have come off for now.

But it wasn't the reason for insomnia for me.
