my mind is clouding over

Hi everyone, Had EMG yesterday with my Neurologist. His comment when finished was that I have Neuropathy. He said to make an appointment with my GP for next week to go over things??
Same as most, started with pain in the ball of my left foot which turned to numbness, pins and needles. Over 4 months this moved to burning in both feet and now legs with ongoing throbbing, pins and needles in my hands and fingers. I have also started having random intermittent sharp pains in my calves and shins. I also have aches in my head and tenderness around the temples.
I also mentioned to the Neurologist my most worrying concern, periods of memory loss and confusion. I have had trouble with multi tasking and some times even adding up basic numbers in my head. Sometimes I have trouble finding the right word and just spitting it out.
The Neurologist didn't think these problems were linked to my Neuropathy, but I'm not so sure. As my body symptom's have increased so have my cognitive problems. I am scheduled for a PET scan to check for early Alzheimer's
I have had 2 melanomas removed (early stage) and have a 10yr history of working with MDF (Formaldehyde) in our workshop at school.
I'm concerned of making mistakes with my students and also duty of care.
Can this all be linked together.
Dearly appreciate any help and advice.

As far as I can see there is no evidence for a link between melanoma and AD.

Formaldehyde is more complicated. There is some evidence that there is age-related accumulation of formaldehyde in the brain and that people with AD tend to have higher brain levels of it that people who do not. There is limited evidence (based on studies of purified Abeta and the various ApoE isoforms) of a causal link.

However, there does not seem to be any evidence for a link between environmental exposure to formaldehyde and risk of AD.

Thank you, so many questions, we all want answers right now don't we and I suppose some of us may never get the answers we are after. I also notice after sitting for a while, my legs and toes zapping I have stood up to walk and stubbled not lifting my foot and have also wobbled a little when changing direction without really thinking. Is this a progression of PN
Thanks again.

Hi Phil

I know essentially nothing about PN so can't help you with that one.

Maybe describe what you are experiencing in the PN forum - the good folk who contribute to it might have some good ideas.

Another blank moment

Oops have to reset my internet banking details again after putting in the wrong password. It's this type of mix up that is frustrating.

Phil, quite often I make mistakes like that on-line.

I don't see them as signs of cognitive decline (as the saying goes, "**** happens").

Please don't over-interpret this.

I know what your saying, however yesterday I had two students ask why their projects legs were shorter than the other students. Some weeks back I had given them another part of the project instead of the correct pieces. I have each component placed on storage racks and clearly labeled. In the same class I gave instructions to a student what to do next and it was for a different project and different year level. Embarrassing. I don't make those mistakes. I don't know what....but something's not right.
