Daily headaches and head pressure after head trauma
I had a concussion on Feb 8th, so almost 6 months ago. Ever since I have had headaches and head pressure daily. I'm currently on Tramadol to keep the headaches at bay, but my neurologist is no help at this point and I'm not sure what my next step should be. I have already had a brain and neck MRI, both showed no issues. Also, when my headache gets worse it usually brings on earache in my right ear as well, which is the side I hit. My headaches usually start to get worse around mid-day, and sometimes can radiate behind my eyes. I don't even know exactly what type of headache this sounds like, since there are so many different types. Any advice would be appreciated, I'm open to try anything at this point to reclaim my active lifestyle. Thanks for your time.

Neurology Headache Specialist

I feel your pain. I had suffered a TBI/concussion and whiplash over 2 years ago and still have horrible headaches.:( Not all neurologists specialize in headaches. Is it possible for you to have a consult with a neuro with a sub-specialty in headaches? If in the U.S., look at closest university-affiliated health centers for headache specialists. You might also find some of these specialists in private practices, "headache clinics." Investigate your options for seeing a headache specialist. I hope you are more comfortable with each passing day.:) To Our Healing, DejaVu |

I'm currently looking for a headache specialist in my area but it seems like there aren't many around. I'm in Austin, TX so it's kind of surprising that they're hard to come by. |
Hi Donnie,
I have not had great luck, even though I have seen headaches specialists. This is partially because I am allergic to lots of meds. It is partially because I had chronic migraines before the concussion and whiplash. It is partially because the unresolved whiplash injuries also set off headaches. I have a very complicated neurological case, before concussion/whiplash. MANY people have very helpful results when seeing a headache specialist. I am hoping you have good results, too! :D Let us know how you are doing? Best wishes! DejaVu |
Seton Brain and Spine Institute?
Donnie,
Have you tried Seton Brain and Spine Institute? http://www.setonbrainandspine.com/ Click on "Institutes and Specialty Practices" after going to that site. It lists headaches. They may have a headache specialist? Aren't they affiliated with Dell Medical School in Austin? Have you checked with Seton? Warmly, DejaVu |
DejaVu,
Thanks for the suggestion, in fact, they do have a headache specialist. I just got off the phone with them and apparently the doctor is booked until mid-September. Sigh.. I'm moving abroad in a couple of months so I don't know if it's even worth scheduling with him if it's gonna be only 1 appointment before I can leave. |
Other Options?
Hi Donnie,
Sorry they are so backed up at Seton Brain and Spine. I wonder if they keep a cancellation list? You might get in earlier if they keep such a list and would call you when there's a cancellation. Are you able to go more towards Houston or Dallas? DejaVu |
I might try Houston. Last few days I've been feeling a little better in terms of headaches. Maybe my atlas orthogonal adjustment helped a bit.
