4 weeks still in pain after cyst removal and bone graft
It's been 4 weeks since I had to have #32 removed due to a lg cyst in my gum and then had to have bone graft due to no bone left barely. 1 wk after had to go back have another tooth extracted due to its involment from previous surgery. After all that and 20 days of antibiotics I thought I would be better. The pain is still awful lip chin and front teeth are numb. My cheek and gums are still swollen and the pain is worse . I feel like my lips and chin are raw . I've been back to oral surgeon he says could be another 6 wks till back to normal.. This just does not seem right I feel something isn't right I have a high pain tolerance and this has me taking Vicodin . Does this seem normal ? Thank you.

Hi Alleym,
Tooth #32 is a lower right wisdom tooth. If you had a large cyst in that area resulting in a major loss of bone then that cyst was not just in the gum it was in the bone as well. The cyst deteriorated the bone and that's why there was none left in there. The second tooth that you had removed, was it the molar in front #31? Depending on the depth and location of the cyst, the surgeon probably had to do quite a bit of surgery in that area which could have involved some bundles of nerves that would cause the numbness you are experiencing. Also these surgeries can be quite painful for longer than what is expected when a less difficult tooth is extracted. Did the surgeon explain how involved the surgery was going to be to remove the cyst and those teeth prior to having it done? What are doing post operatively to heal the site? What are you rinsing with? Are you able to brush all of your teeth? Are you eating a nutritious soft food diet or junk food? Are you relatively healthy or sickly? I ask because all of these things will affect your healing either in a good way or a not so good way. Bryanna Quote:
