Why would a neurologist not be into Neuropathic medicine?

So my Primary care doc says that a "Neurologist" is not into Neuropathic medicine....

Please explain to me the difference...:o

What the hell is a Neurologist?

I know I take medication, but I feel like I just fell down the hole with Alice and the Mad hatter has taken over!

Naturopathic is a medicine that is considered part of nature.

A neurologist and naturopathic doctor are two different types of medicine.

Also consider tho that some neuro's specialize in many different areas: Child Immune neuro issues, ALS, MS, Alzheimers, Parkinson's, etc. Take a look at all the different categories on this board and others! That's a whole heap of STUFF to be expert in, ya know? Sub-specialties so to speak.
IF I had to choose a doc working in all the different subs, I would choose Ideally one who deals mainly w/PN, but depending of where you live, a MS sub work work. Why? they deal with the whole aspects and prospects of demeyelination. Where it occurs is different. MS Folks, when having an exacaberation [sp?] feel just like us only worse and their damage can be permanent and paralyzing...They have some understandings as to the HURT. I do not mean to disrespect any neuros who have other experiences [as a fact, my own neuro deals with those issues above], maybe it's the key issue of a doc with some 'sympatico'...understanding, clue as to what it's about.
The issue is less muscular, brain function, and more about the durned body turning on it'self...eating up the nerves and nerve endings! Any doc who listens, understands and can TRY to help is key! Hang in there strong smart person..! - j

Another possibility is that most PNers have lots of pain and many Neurologists (and doctors in all specialties) do not wish to see patients who have chronic moderate to severe pain....and they avoid us like the plague. And these people call themselves doctors! I know what they are afraid of - they don't want to become known as the doctor on the block that prescribes narcotics -they fear the DEA will be on them like a chicken on a June bug (to use a good ole southern expression). Well, if they do it right they have precious little to fear from the DEA, but, if they prescribe 1700 narcotic pills per day to a single patient then, yeah, they need to fear the DEA, the local police, and the Sheriff's office - and I, for one, hope they nail 'em. It's these people that cause many with chronic pain to cry themselves to sleep at night because they can't find a doctor that will treat them adequately. Untreated and undertreated pain in this country is a national disgrace. If you need proof just listen to the people on this and other sites that say they cannot find a doctor that will treat them.
