Changes, anybody know what they mean?

Hi,

I have started to experience a lessening in my tingling ( still always there just less intense) my arms aren't falling asleep as much ( especially while asleep). I took this as a good thing. After my recent gabapentin disaster ( forgot a pill and burning came roaring back) I'm not so sure. Does this mean that the nerves are just fairly dead now so there aren't as many to send out these signals?

Anybody have an idea?

If you can still feel touch(pinch yourself) it may be that a little more relief is showing up from the Gaba. Hpoefully Ken in Texas.

Hi canagirl

Glad to hear you're getting some relief. Maybe it's not that your nerves are 'dead' but are possibly just going back to 'normal'. Remember the pain/tingling you were getting is due to an abnormal firing of nerve signals. Do you have any persistent numbness or the feeling that when you touch your skin it's like there's a layer of neoprene foam over it?

Enjoy the remission from the intense neuropathy as much as you can - as I'm currently finding a flare can happen suddenly from an unexpected aggravation.
Take care and keep us posted.

I have no actual numbness. However, I have a lot of feeling like I'm numb which is accompanied by severe compression feelings and feelings of heaviness.

Another question....after waking up I lie in bed trying to get back to sleep. During this time I have the most intense burning, particularly in my legs. I have said before how my body feels heavy, numb, like I'm being compresswd but I also get the worst burning. It is all over every inch of my legs. It feels like each legs is wrapped in a blanket that burns and stings me. It starts to get bad about 10-15 minutes after waking. Anybody have this? Why does it take a few minutes to get going? Then it builds up into intense pain. Is this because the gabapentin is wearing off In the wee hours of the morning?

I think it is normal for pain to fade away when you are distracted from it (or are asleep) - and to increase when you become aware of it. Any time you really concentrate on pain, that can magnify it greatly. With this disease, there is the natural instinct to concentrate how your body feels, and constantly try to decide if it's getting better or worse. That generally just leads to increased pain sensation.

I very much agree. Half of my battle has been in getting past fear/anxiety responses. Once I did my pain levels noticeably dropped. I have aggressively attacked this issue with unexpected success. At least for now.
