extended release

hello guys i have effexor that is extended release formulation .
i dont want extended release capsules i just want short acting but it is not available in pharmacy
can i convert it to short acting by taking out the capsule and put the active ingredient in another capsule ?!
and do capsule in effexor is the substance that make it XR ?

Nope .. Never tamper with extended release
Dosage forms. That can be dangerous.

Effexor has a very short half life and is
Too erratic for depression treatment as
Immediate release.

I very strongly agree with mrsD.

I have been on Effexor XR for a while - it has helped me.

If you think that it is not of benefit to you, discuss other options with your prescribing doctor.

this yet another

drug i have tried with my shrink
not for me
though it is said and taught
never tamper with any drug
especially extended release

for the addicts out in the world i have been told
by my children as personal experience and
knowledge recreational pharmaceutical drug use
with for example my 60mg Oxycontin is extended
release never to be cut
is chewed by an addict
pills that have been scored to show a half
can be taken
some will crush and alter it by either
smoking it and crushing for snorting it
this is how pharmaceuticals become a street drug

a doctor should be called any time
you want to change
and explained why you want less the only other
way is a different drug

i was floored at what some will do for quick delivery
for an addict

always talk to your doctor
and read the pamphlet that comes with
your medicines
and lock up your meds to everyone
this i learned from personal experience

be well
be safe
be careful

love
me

Hi labryrinth,

Great insight to pose the question before modifying the med. :D

It seems more and more AD meds are now extended-release or sustained release.

If people find the med activating and this extends into sleep interruption, it may be helpful to discuss concerns with prescribing M.D. and discuss options.

When I take extended release meds I find activating/energizing, I take them early in the morning. For instance, I will take a 12 hour release formula as early as 5 or 6 am, so the effects have worn off by 6 pm.

Some extended release formulas are 8 hours, 12 hours, etc.
Please check the formulation of the med and/or call your doctor or pharmacist for this information. :)

If a med is well-tolerated and working for you, yet needs a few tweaks, please consult with the prescribing M.D. Sometimes, there are ways to optimize the med on an individualized basis.

You are very wise to ask questions!

To Our Healing,
DejaVu
