new expensive exercise gadget - powerplate - vibrations?
Just read a few things about this new exercise gadget/machine called Powerplate. Saw an ad on the back page of the New York Times magazine today. Way too expensive for me, the cheapest version is $3000 before tax (and delivery). Are being sold by Brookstone for $4500. They have one at the high end for $10k.
Anyway, the ads and info on the web seem to be aiming at disabled folk such as with MS. Seems to claim pain relief. Didn't see peripheral neuropathy mentioned. Was wondering if anyone knows anyone who has one or has used one with results? Madonna is supposed to be using one but you never know about the celebrities. They may be given a free machine in exchange for positive publicity. I would be tempted to do a trial membership at a gym if I knew one that had this machine. see http://tinyurl.com/2vqa7u or http://www.thatsfit.com/2007/06/10/p...d-muscle-tone/ p.s. I'm not affiliated with the company that makes the machine and not a customer (but if I win the lottery, I would definitely consider being one...LOL) |
Oh my God, just the word vibrate alone, is enough to give me the shivers!!!
I had absolutely no symptoms of neuropathy UNTIL my podiatrist, while he was doing my nails and feet, began using that vibrating tool. He used it to smooth down my nail tips and he used it on the bottoms of my feet. When I got home that night, I went crazy with the PN stuff. Everything hit me, which never hit me before. And this is a machine that vibrates the body???? Not this body!!!! Melody |
Nor this one, Mel... I well remember your reaction to that. Mine came from some sort of vibrating therapy given in PT, and it lasted about a week.
Texas Geek, if you are thinking of buying something like that, I would suggest making sure that vibration doesn't aggravate your PN. Several others have posted reports of this. Cathie |
And I would also suggest TRYING IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!!
If it so much as gives you a tingle (that is assuming you are not numb), I guess if you are numb, and this makes your neves jump and tingle, maybe that's a good thing..... I really don't know. But I'm not going near anything that vibrates!!!! no sir mel |
