Its uncommon, in otherwise healthy individual. buts its common in the elderly, people who are immunocompromised, from Hiv or autoimmune diseases, they can get up to 3 or more. Thier shingles are also more severe and widespread as well. did you get them twice?

Wiix 08-22-2015 08:39 AM

No, I got them once and don't want them again. They say they should only last about 4 to 5 weeks, mine lasted for 2 months. :(

How old are you, People who are immunocompromised seems to get shingles that can last longer. was the blisters continuing to appear after 1-2weeks? or its just pain.

I was 30 when I got them. It was a very stressful time in my life, I guess my immune system was compomised. It started with blisters that lasted well into it. I had blisters up until the end.

I'm curious as to why you are asking if you can get them twice. Did you think you were getting them again?

I've read in medical literature that it's "rare" to get it more than once, but I've known a lot of people who have had eruptions after the first episode, so I take that info with a grain of salt.

The ads on TV remind me how bad it was and I don't want them again. Isn't there a vaccine now?

A friend got it twice, I'm banking on my grape seed ex to keep me free of shingles..keeping my immune system strong.

Shingles arises because the varicella zoster virus (VZV, which causes chickenpox) can remain dormant in nerve cells after chickenpox has subsided. Re-activation of VZV, for reasons which are poorly understood, leads to shingles.

A live vaccine for VZV is available. A Cochrane meta-analysis, which looked eight RCTs with 52269 subjects showed that the vaccine reduces the risk of shingles by about 50% with minor adverse effects; http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/1...D71BB3D.f04t03 .
