Neuropathy with Burning Feet
Hi Everyone,
Although I follow this forum with great interest, this is my first post and would appreciate any help or advice that may be out there. I live in South East Asia, where a lot depends on research and self medicating to a degree. My condition started about 4 years ago when my feet felt hot at times. Over time the burning progressed and I started losing fat pad on the soles of my feet, so it became very difficult to walk without any pain. Fast forward to 2015 and a second Nerve Conduction Study shows no sensory nerve input to my feet. The symptoms are intense burning like walking on hot coals at times and this is the current medication I have been advised. Neurontin 400mg four times a day Clonazepam 2mg at night (pain prevents me sleeping) Supplents: Methylcobamine 2,000mg am Alpha Lipoic Acid 300 mg daily Asthanthaxin 6mg daily Co Enzyme Q10 120 mg daily Omega 3 1,000 mg daily The doctor I have found said the Neurontin can go up to 3,200 mg daily. The current regimen isn't quite hitting the spot. If anyone has anything similar I would really appreciate any advice/ help. Thank you. |
Hi Catch 22
Welcome Thanks for your first post - (I see you joined a while ago and are probably well read up on the Neuropathy forums) I too have the intense burning in my feet - it was one of the earliest symptoms of neuropathy for me - fortunately it is more seasonal - mostly worse in summer (I'm in NZ - so cool at present) - being in SE Asia with the tropical humidity it would be a constant problem for you. I haven't found anything yet to fix it permanently but get some temporary relief by soaking feet in cool water for about 10mins at a time (too long can damage skin) and at night I can only get to sleep by resting my feet on a frozen cooler pad wrapped in a hand towel (this is important - don't have direct contact with the ice.) I'm limited as to what medications I can take due to another auto-immune disorder so haven't tried Neurontin (aka Gabapentin) - although I was offered it earlier this year I'm keeping it in reserve for if things get worse. Has your doctor identified the cause of your neuropathy? This can be useful to help determine possible treatments. All the best - please keep us posted how you're doing. |

Your supplement regimen seems very good. Also, have you made dietary adjustments? There are some folks who like to use Morton Epsom lotion or Biofreeze as a topical remedy. I wouldn't recommend Capsaicin though that might make the burn worse. |
Custom Orthotics?

I have taken 900mg Gabapentin (Neurontin) 3 times a day for the last couple of years... don't hesitate requesting to increase your dosage if you're in pain. |
