Tenesmus

Any one out there suffer tenesmus
Through intervention in child birth my left side pelvic floor was ripped from my side?It took the medical fraternity after many visits to numerous doctors over 4 years to find this out. I was doing possibly 4 colonic lavage a day and night to know that I wasn't going to be incontinent.
6 operations later,I now have a colostomy and 6 inches of colon removed and held up by a mesh,so am a mess,my symptoms still persist. The symptoms are continuos from morning to night,I have no relief. It has stolen the last 12 years of my life.
I have made the mistake of going privately for this condition and have been left high and dry with no after care or thought of referral. It seems to be outside their box of knowledge therefor untreatable.Any one have any thoughts on this.
I wake each morning to this nightmare and only get relief when I'm knocked out.
Spend my days smoking cannabis which affords me some relief, also am on gababentin ,just started.tried before I was diagnosed and messed about with am waiting to see if it gives me any relief ,have just started am on 600 a day. Any one ,any where have any thoughts or ideas of help. Its a nightmare to have this urge of a full bowel day and night.Am absolutely doped to the eye balls daily and have no life worth speaking of.any help out there please.

Hello Deirdre,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

You've certainly been through an ongoing ordeal. I'm so sorry.

I had a quick look in the Forum Search Feature for - tenesmus - but little showed up. There was one post regarding probiotics but doubt how helpful that would be considering what you've described.

Hopefully other members may have some insight and be able to offer some suggestions.

take care there.

Welcome to NeuroTalk

Hi Deidre,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. :)

I am saddened to read your story. I cannot imagine going through all you have described. This has to be extremely uncomfortable. :(

My brother had suffered frequently recurring severe episodes of tenesmus. These episodes were extremely painful.

He was helped with anti-spasmodic medication and with moist heat applications when in a severe episode. He had often used a heated hot pack, filled with rice (often called rice shawls or rice blankets). The rice filler held heat well and the pack hugged close to the contours of his body. He often applied the hot pack to his low back and/or sat directly on the pack.

I imagine you have tried these two approaches.
I wanted to mention them, just incase.

I remember how much pain he had endured during these episodes. :(
I feel you have been (are enduring) a tremendous amount of chronic pain/discomfort.

I am wondering what, if anything, can be done with the nerves and/or muscles to safely help you with comfort and quality of life. I am wondering if there is a type of biofeedback training which may help? I am giving this more thought.

So glad you are here, reaching out.

I hope you will find support and helpful information here.

Please also make yourself at home on any of the forums here.

Warmly,
DejaVu

This is going to sound strange... but at least for me I know
sitting or lying on memory foam furniture, bedding, makes me have obvious tenesmus problems. I have spells with severe GI diarrhea (and sometimes vomiting)... due to hereditary angioedema (internal swelling due to bradykinin buildup). During a swelling episode which can last a few days, I cannot sit anywhere unless it is firm and hard based. My lower muscles get so inflamed and painful... and it took a while to discover this. Now I have no memory foam around and I am much much better.
