Scheduled for exercise test...nervous
This was scheduled for another condition I have over 6 months ago before my MG diagnosis. Obviously I am going to tell them of the diagnosis but I have no I idea how this exercise test will affect me as I have been very careful not to push myself. Has anyone had anything like this done? If you push yourself to your absolute limit (which is what they want) is it immediate fatigue or delayed fatigue? Will I know when to stop?
Thanks |
Hi Meech,
Is this for a cardiac stress test? Is it that sort of exercise test? If so, there is another way they can do the examination. Instead of doing it via exercise, they can inject a medication which stimulates your heart and produces approximately the same results. Then you would just be able to remain lying down. You may still have fatigue afterwards, but you wouldn't have to be afraid of falling down during the test, for instance. I had the test done this way a few months ago, and it went okay for me...certainly much better than it would have done if I tried to do it on a treadmill. If you tell them about your diagnosis in advance, they can do the test this alternate way and probably would prefer it, I think. Take care, Erin |
No, not a cardiac stress test, it's an exercise pulmonary type test for cystic fibrosis and it sounds like it will possibly involve a treadmill or bike at increased difficulty as long and hard as I can go. Thanks though!

Oh dear! That's a different thing entirely. Well, I know it's going to be quite difficult, but on the plus side, I'm sure they will have medical personnel monitoring you during the test to make sure that you are safe. I think it is good to tell them about your MG diagnosis also, as you say. I'll be wishing you all the best for it. Hang in there!
Take care, Erin |
When are you scheduled for the test? We will be thinking of you.

It's on September 23rd. On the plus it's at a university hospital and I'm going to see if I can get a referral to the neuromuscular clinic at that hospital while I'm there. It will be a long day with 4 appointments with my first one at 10:30 am and last one at 3:45. Thanks very much for the support.
