Good Morning America CRPS Special Tomorrow

GMA, as a part of their "Ease Your Pain" segment this week and for Pain Awareness Month, is going to talk about Complex Region Pain Syndrome tomorrow, Wednesday, September 16, at 8:00 and more specifically 8:15 AM New York City time. Be sure to tune and leave your reactions here! A special patient and doctor interview is scheduled as well.

This should prove to be interesting. I wonder how in depth it will be. I've seen shows like Dr. Oz do this before, though not very thoroughly. I hope that it talks about the neurological effects specifically in regard to the Brain! Most of the time reports like this just talk about the pain pathway through the body. I've got my DVR set to record. Here is hoping for an in depth and knowledgeable report.

I hope they do a thorough report, because I am tired of trying to explain this monster to people, including medical professionals.

Yesterday, I cleared out my desk at work and spent considerable time on CRPS. My co-workers and several patrons ( lovely people btw, who have been missing me) could not understand the connection between my work accident and my prolonged recovery. It was an exasperating experience. "Have you seen this kind of a doctor...did they take the right tests...this sounds like a bogus diagnosis...you need to see better doctors..."

hi ny. thanks for letting us know about this! hope you all have a low to no pain day.

Didn't want to be the first to comment on this.....way to brief. Didn't care for the explanation that CRPS is exaggerated pain for something that shouldn't hurt that much. Still makes it sound made up pain to me. 26 people out of 100,000 get CRPS...sounds like a go to when there aren't any answers....
I did like that chronic pain shows up in the brain....how in the gray or gray matter of brain. So should I have a brain scan?
Left me more grr because Miss Piggy's break up with Kermit was a longer coverage than helping explain CRPS.
Well, that's my 2 cents. But thanks for the heads up. Still got something out of it.

I am happy I'm not the only person disappointed by GMA this morning. The description of CRPS was so vague I think it did more harm than good. I think it would have been better if they didn't even mention it. I guess it's a good thing we have so much experience in advocating for ourselves.

I agree it is frustrating that Miss Piggy got more time than the pain story.

Nicely said. I agree so much. This is the second time I heard it mentioned this way. And yes makes it sound like yeah the pain isn't made up now BUT its exaggerated.

That is the way this Disease is always handled. The problem is, it is so rare that even when the spotlight is put on it, people doing the investigating don't make it past the obvious first simplified layer that seems to surround this disease. It is only after they start to ask the question, "What does this actually do to the behavior patterns of the sufferer?" that they actually begin to understand that this is really a terrible disease to have. Once they arrive there, they finally get it. The problem is, there is always the next story to do, so they move on. I've seen it before. We will see it again, just like today on GMA.

i missed the gma segment on rsd. if it's possible for someone to provide a link to it (if that's ok to do) i would appreciate it. from the posts i'm reading here it sounds like they are comparing it to fibromyalgia.
rsd is so different because it has visisble as well as invisible symptoms, whereas fibro does not.
that's not to say they are not both real, because i have both and believe me the pain they both cause are real. it's just means that rsd causes deformities and symptoms like shiny skin, lack of rom and temperature changes on top of burning and deep stabbing electrical like pain. fibro cause a deep aching pain that has no physical symptoms that can be seen by the naked eye.
it's a shame that the news doesn't do more research on this illness. but at least they are starting to mention it which i guess is better then nothing.
