Esophagus/throat concern
Can swallowing with your head in a weird position (tilted back or turned to the side) cause tearing or injury of any kind? Like swallowing food or drinks while the muscles in the throat/esophagus is stretched, because it hurts when you try to swallow with your head in some positions (looking up and to one of the sides as far as you can while swallowing). I've got this lump on one of the sides of my throat now, and I'm wondering if it's from doing this? I can't remember if it was there before.

I don't think that the angle at which you eat/drink something is likely to damage your oesophagus.
However, the "lump" that you mentioned concerns me - I suggest that you get your GP to check it out. |
I tried to massage it but it resulted in being really sore today. It's a small lump, could it be from an old injury?

Could swallowing from a weird angle increase the risk of food/drinks going down the "wrong pipe"/windpipe (trachea)

I lay down more than ever in my life. I sometimes will yawn or swallow something and get a weird feeling in throat. Is your thyroid in good shape. If it really bothers you, get it checked. I don't feel it's an issue for me but with aging everything has changed in my life. Brain is still good though.

minimac, you could check out the symptoms of anxiety. It's not uncommon for people who have generalized anxiety to feel as if they have a lump in their throat.
