Hopefully Avoid Replacements

I often WISH I had not done a hip replacement. I just talked with a young woman, 50, who is a 5K runner (was) and she was having pain so went to surgeon and he told her that a new hip would let her continue to be physical.

She went with a surgeon in the same office where my surgeon is and she's had 3 dislocations so far. She really regrets her decision.

I believe today's society pushes their bodies too much. I pushed mine enough but not like so many do today. Younger and younger people are opting for these replacements...40's, 50's etc. I was 72, my neighbor was 82 but today so much younger and I believe due to pushing their bodies. Walking is the best.

I agree with you about walking.

I walk briskly for 30 minutes every day, which is good for my aerobic fitness.

My Mum (who died in her mid-80s) did the same. She did not "push" her body and never had any joint issues.

My mom and all her sisters all had OA and got thru their lives and no replacements....they did their work and walked but not all the crazy making joint destruction that goes on today. I watched the LA Marathon the first year it came down my street and saw the pain in 1000's of those people and had to stop watching it. The Modern Life....ummmmmm

Anyone here have KNee Replacement and STILL live with STIFF knee even yrs after.

I'm still so on the fence about doing replacement for knee and wonder IF anyone here would like to reply. Would be good to hear from anyone if they are someone they know had replacement and about the STIFF knee that stays with people.

Thinking about a Hip Replacement? Read some of these stories. I've been looking for a list like this and found this today. I read so many here with the same things I live with 9 yrs post hip THR, anterior.

Patient Comment Submission Form Total Hip Replacement - MedicineNet.com

Currently waiting for arrival of Living Silica gel to rub into my knee which has suffered a lot of damage due to the THR.

Hi caroline2.

Unfortunately, it's not always possible to avoid a joint replacement. Towards the end of the month I will be having a Total Knee Replacement(TKR).

I was diagnosed with arthritis in my mid-twenties (I am now 58) due to multiple falls through the years. I have been bone-on-bone (no cartilage/cushioning) for 3 years and have lost my quality of life.

Good wishes on that TKR, hope yours turns out better than going in. Sadly I hear stories. My knee is pretty damaged and I'm 81 and can't imagine doing it. I live with more than just ole OA but damage from other stuff like shorter leg from hip job, staph infection from an injection and then UCLA surgeons did a clean out...so as I understand it all good stuff is taken out too.
