I'm confused
I see that everyone has had a series of ketamine infusions. I am only having one. Is this going to work?

I hope someone on here can answer this correctly but from everything that I have seen, there are a number of different Ketamine treatments. There is a one day outpatient, 3 day inpatient, 4 day inpatient and 5 day inpatient and oral treatment. Any more than that I hope someone else can answer.

Hi Julie,
It IS confusing. Different docs definitely have different protocols. I haven't even seen one like mine described anywhere but my doc has been using it a while and likes it. It is tailored somewhat per patient. One thought is that you were diagnosed in record time so centralization is not really entrenched and they are hoping to break you out of this. Another thought is that they are seeing how you do and how well you tolerate infusions before ordering anymore. Mine were scheduled but contingent on me doing okay. I think those of us getting a series have been at treatments a while and have exhausted other options. Ketamine, while very safe is not usually the first thing brought out. Personally I think it is great and there is much positive evidence for its use. As far as needing family three days as asked in your other post...CDwall is on a mega dose of K at 500mg. I only get 55mg. Ketamine clears really quickly which is why ER docs are a fan of using it for wrist reductions, etc. I am mostly tired from the Versed given at the same time. A lot depends on your dose. I am allowed and feel perfectly able to drive the next day. Day of I sort of just bum around but still make dinner and such. Ask what your docs plan is and go ahead and schedule a follow up with them so ya'll can decide where you need to go from here. I'll be thinking of you Tuesday and hope you get stellar relief. Keep in mind, even if response if fantastic you still just had foot surgery three months ago. Your foot is still gonna need elevation, babying and rehab for a while yet. |
