divide capsules?
 

I would like some advice on dividing capsules into two equal parts.

I am weaning off of Lyrica and I am taking 25 mg capsules. Because those capsules were so expensive at the pharmacy my pain management doctor tried to help me out and gave me the only samples he had but they were 50 mg.

I bought some clear empty capsules and have just been eyeballing breaking them into two equal parts which is neither efficient nor easy to do. I don't think I'm doing a very good job of keeping them equal and am feeling it.

For some reason Lyrica is a drug I am hypersensitive to.

does anyone have any better ideas on how I might divide these capsules more efficiently. My local pharmacy cannot help me.

If they are powder I would use a food scale. I have one and it wasn't too expensive.... On sale about 20 bucks......:o

There was another Post about this, I cannot remember where, which argued against the practice as the medication in the capsules is not evenly distributed amongst the filler.

You could ask your doctor for this to help you taper.

If your pharmacist was no help, go to another pharmacy.

Dave....I had not thought the ingredients would not be evenly mixed but, that certainly makes sense for how I have been feeling. The pill comes in a 25 mg size but, because I have hit the Medicare gap for the year, it is now expensive and I was trying to cut corners. I may just have to bite the bullet and get them anyway.

Mrs D....knowing it comes in a 20 mg solution may helped me step off more gradually...I may just have to start in January, when it will be covered.

Diandra, Lyrica has a discount program. You can find the application online. Many people are making their own supplements which include dividing doses. There are a few good examples on youtube.

Please have a Dr help you wean off . just call and talk to nurse , the phone call is free....

I am doing it with my doc. He is the one who gave me the samples and he knows I was splitting them.
