Primary optic atrophy???

How is everyone? I thought I would stop by and say hello. I have been reading threads and commenting here and there, but so many doctor appointments and not enough time...lol.

I just had the first cataract surgery done, the left eye will be done on October 27. I found an interesting term in my file with my insurance company and I have no idea if it really means anything or not. It was dated the day I went for my annual visit. The interesting term was Primary Optic Atrophy. I have never heard this term before where my vision is concerned. I have cataracts, I have epithelial corneal dystrophy. Neither of those show on my file with the insurance company for this date.

Any insight would be wonderful. I am just curious.

Hi BD, Welcome back.:). I've not heard of it either, but I don't think I like the sound of it.

I hope you are doing well and keep it up. Good luck with your Cat surgeries.

I Googled the term, and it sounds rather serious. You found it in your insurance history, not your medical history, right? Hopefully it is only used for coding purposes. You should mention it to your doctor.

I had my second cataract surgery yesterday. I had to go back to my ophthalmologist for a follow up on it today. She is hopeful that I will only need reading glasses in a few weeks. We are hopeful that the epithealial corneal dystrophy is stable and will not flare and cause me to have corneal transplants at this time. Colors seem so vivid, the world is beautiful!

I asked her about the primary optic atrophy. She explained that my retinal discs are really light. She also said she has already done the tests on my optic nerves, muscles, and vision areas. Everything is fine and I need to make sure I where sunglasses when I am outside. What a relief to know that I am not going blind at this time! God is merciful and He does answer prayers!
