nerve damage from surgerys?? anybody??
 

:confused:Hi..My name is Julie....Just wondering if anybody has had this happen...Back in Feb. ,I had a total hysterectomy ( all vaginally )....right after that , I had severe pain in my colon and gallbladder area...the surgeon I went to see for that thought maybe the doc that did my hysterectomy might have nicked something or damage something..i didnt care ,,just wanted to get fixed to get back to work....had the gallbladder removed in March...started having pain in abdomin above bellybutton...thought it was just from surgery....went back to work about 3 weeks after surgery..hurt alot..then I had a huge infection above my bellybutton area bigger than my hand...went to see my family doc. because the gallbladder surgeon was out of town...He said he had never seen anything like it before ..he put me on 2 antibiotics and told me to see my gallbladder surgeon as soon as possible so he could see this...went back to him..redness went away now i have more pain than before..he sent me to a specialist....to make a long story short he said I have nerve damage , all around that area..he first put me on lycira..yes it helped but i could not function with that..now on neurontin..i dont feel drunk with that stuff but it doesnt help as well.....doc said it may go away..it may not....Has anybody had this happen to them and what was the outcome??? some times it hurts so bad..(the more I streth across..reach..bend over..etc... by the time I get off work..I am totally spent..my stomach is very tender..sitting down on breaks at work helps..but comes right back.....please any info would help...please...thanks

Hi Julie. Welcome to NeuroTalk. I hope someone comes along soon who may have a clue as I'm not so sure that I do.

It sounds to me like you had/have 2 different things going on, and maybe not. It's hard to tell if your pain was from the hysterectomy or from the gallbladder.

I can say I know someone who had the same infection problem as you after gallbladder surgery. I had mine out, last year?, and it went fine. But my friend ended up with a really really bad infection above her belly button as well!!!!

Is the nerve damage around the gut where they took out the gallbladder? Or does he think the nerve damage is from the hysterectomy?

Sending you some place else seems not right here... :rolleyes: ... but, you may also want to check out a site where people have had hysterectomies. I noticed that a few there talk about nerve damage. The site is called Hyster Sisters.

I hope someone comes along who can direct you to a nice spot here at NeuroTalk because the people are just great.

I just saw a thread, I think in the Fibromyalgia forum, where people were talking about Lyrica. There's also a Meds forum here as well.

Julie... so sorry to hear about your situation. I deeply empathize w/ your pain, suffering & distress.

i've never had gall bladder surgery but know many who have w/out and also with major problems.

I've had several GYN surgery, not Hysterectomy - for a various problems --poly cystic ovarys, adhesions, and last surgery for fallopian tube problem originally thought to be cancer. Complicated.... but since ,continue to have pain often severe in pelvic area.

Not confirmed but speculation that pain may be from nerve damage.
Hx of adhesions from prior Gyn surgerys..was usually cause of pelvic pain for many years, but last trip to GYN , said he didn't think was adhesions this time. Whatever-- pain persists.

I have tried many things inc. Lyrica, which caused extreme sedation. also Problems w/ Neurontin , Cymbalta & other antidepressants. Other pain meds {narcotics} help--but nothing does when get flares of extreme pain.

I had an infection & hematoma after one surgery years ago. Not nice.
I don't know who may be the best DR for you....

I've been to many specialists-Neuro, Gyn, urologists & surgeons. So many organs in that area plus nerves that could be damaged.

I hope that this does not become Chronic Pelvic pain or any Chronic Pain disorder but, seems may already be. Perhaps others can share more at forums on chronic pain or gyn & women's issues.

After the infection is cleared up - if the pain is still there- I wonder if it could be scar tissue or internal RSD????

If it persists I would ask for at least an xray to verify nothing was left behind:eek: unless it was all done with the small/micro tools thru a small opening and they never opened you up.

RE: scar tissue - my experience is that it can form even w/ "non-invasive" techniques , Micro surgery etc. Some bodies seem to overcompensate & make plenty scar tissue.

Adhesions can be extremely painful; depending on what's stuck to what--certain organ involvment-like bowel obstruction- can be very serious and potentially fatal. If pain does persist, & is debilitating, def. get to DR.--again which one??? It can be very challenging & frustrating. and difficult to find the Right Dr.--who can & will "treat" adhesions.
My experience w/ adhesions --caused by surgery--required more additional
Surgery to remove adhesions, which created more adhesions, even w/ "prevention" techniques & barriers are used. It's a terrible vicious cycle...

Adhesions can't be seen on diagnotic tests like x-rays. but some problems resulting from adhesions may be seen. [if adhesions are the reason for this pain...it just sounds too familar.....

Nerve damage may also be cause of Pain--whatever the reason or cause, Hope you get answers and Relief..soon.
