No gum around last tooth

Hi all,

I went to my dentist a week ago and was supposed to have my bottom left wisdom tooth extracted. She took bunch of x-rays to locate my tooth and said it was overlapping with my last tooth. She assumed it was on the cheek side because that was the most common case, but not for me turned out. She went ahead cut me open and drilled a bit into the bone there to look for the tooth, didn't find it then said the only possibility is the tooth was on the inner side and she would need to refer me to an oral surgeon to have it taken out because there are too many nerves and she wasn't qualified to do the inner side. She stitched me up and sent me home.

My face swelled up a bunch on the second day, then gradually decreased swelling and healed nicely. I am able to brush my teeth and eat most foods normally now, the wound is still a bit tender when I touch it with my tongue or do some facial expressions. However I noticed today that when i stretched my mouth open to look at the wound, it seems like there's no gum near my last tooth. I compared the left side with the right side, on the left side where there should be pink (gum i guess) it's white, and at the very bottom where my inner face and gum attaches it's black. It just looks like there's no gum around my last tooth and there's bunch of black (really not sure what the black stuff is) in-between the tooth and my inner face.

What is the black stuff? Is the white stuff just things I haven't been able to brush and it's covering my gum? I still can't quite poke this white stuff yet because the left side is still a bit tender. Should I let it heal a bit then see or go to a dentist right away? How serious is it if I no longer have gum around my last tooth?

I'm very worried and anything would help! Thanks!
