hole in sinus - how is it fixed
how does a dentist/oral surgeon fix a large hole in the sinus cavity from a tooth being pulled?
|
Hi smeggy,
The surgery to repair a sinus perforation from a tooth or a tooth extraction depends on the reason for the perforation as well as the location, size and depth of the opening. Some perforations will heal on their own, while others need surgical intervention. Sometimes there are lifestyle choices that prevent a sinus perforation from healing on it's own such as cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, dry mouth syndrome, poor oral or physical health, etc. Sometimes a chronic bacterial infection in the jaw bone or the sinus cavity can prevent the perforation from closing. It is best to see an oral surgeon for the repair of a sinus perforation as they have extensive education in these types of surgeries whereas a general dentist does not. If you think you have a sinus perforation, consult with an oral surgeon as he can explain the type of surgery you would need for your particular situation. Please stop by again and let us know how you are doing. Bryanna Quote:
