Some perforations will heal on their own, while others need surgical intervention. Sometimes there are lifestyle choices that prevent a sinus perforation from healing on it's own such as cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, dry mouth syndrome, poor oral or physical health, etc. Sometimes a chronic bacterial infection in the jaw bone or the sinus cavity can prevent the perforation from closing.
