Does SFN cause injuries to not heal?

I hit my 4th toe about 8 months ago. That toe often would be the one I knocked when it ran into corners, furniture, etc. It still feels swollen some days. Thinking back over the years it would sometimes seem to swell for no apparent reason. Maybe it was an indication of the beginning of my problems, but I'm getting of track.

Over 2 months ago I started having pain in my shoulder/bicep area. It is still there. I have never had problems with my shoulder before. I had been trying to get back into exercise but with very light weights. I am knowledgeable on form and was extremely careful.

Now, my right knee is starting to feel funky. I am worried.

Hi Pinkynose,

I have SFN all over my body, head to toe. All I can say is that my wounds are not healing as fast as they used to. So it sometimes takes weeks for a small wound to heal, and no, I don't have diabetes. I also have various old injuries, like shoulder and knee from weight training and they're still around, sometimes they act up and sometimes not. I can say that the vitamin D3 I've been taking seems to help with the aches and pains. And I also follow proper form in the gym, if that helps.

I do hope you feel better soon.

Healing should be correlated to blood flow so the next question is does SFN affect bloodflow? I have lain, layed on the bed with my head propped up with my hand and had much shoulder, neck trouble. Two weeks would be too long for me to endure much less 2 months. If you think that increased bloodflow would help your shoulder-bicep, try a heating pad to use on them. I apologize for not having a better suggestion. We both may be entering a period of our life when one thing or the other is going to feel funky, maybe two or three things at once. I'm not going to like Funkytown but I like the alternative even less. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.

That is genius Ken! I've been doing that also to read. Thanks! Now I just need to figure out my other body parts problem. Perhaps Mortons Epsom lotion would help with blood flow...

Pinky, only 1 shoulder?
R or L , & R /L handed?
Could it be mouse/computer use related.

If foot /toe have hurt enough to make you walk favoring it for very long times, it could be a misalignment after a certain amount of time.. PT or chiropractic might help if that is the case.

I would never make fun of you. I was quite serious. My shoulder never bothered me when I perched my head upon to read. Been doing it for years even though a massage therapist told me not to. Btw there are countries where the word genius is used in place of good idea ;)

Thanks for your response.
L shoulder R handed. I think Ken in Texas solved that mystery.

It's only the toe. It just doesn't feel heeled and swells slightly. I do see a chiropractor. I'm concerned it doesn't seem to heal.

I'd get that toe looked at by a podiatrist,
and Xrayed.

If you stub any toe hard enough, it can mash the bones in the toe back into the metacarpal joint and damage it. They what is left is spur formation, arthritis, etc. Maybe even gout.

I'd rub in the magnesium lotion daily and see if the swelling responds to that. That would be a good sign.

This link explains the "dislocated phalanges" with the little toe bones riding up into the first metatarsal joint.

In the past a neighbor of mine told me how she did this....
She was vacuuming hastily while barefoot and she jammed a middle toe into a table leg. It refused to heal correctly and the result was she had to have a surgery to fix it. This whole injury was majorly painful for her. She said the surgery was iffy... because she waited too long. She moved away not too long after, so I don't know the outcome of her problem.

When things in the foot remain damaged, or if bone fragments are present, or whatever, healing is going to be inadequate as motion will continue to strain that area/joint.
