Hi, I'm new.
Hi, Folks. I'm new to this forum. I run a headache support group in Boston but am an ordinary migraineur. About 3 years ago, I got off of all analgesics, both prescription and OTC. My health improved dramatically and now headaches are infrequent and, when necessary, managed with ibuprofen. There is hope!
By the way, what are all the flashing/hopping/waving/winking icons doing on a neuro site? These things are a migraine trigger for me and I avoid them like the plague that they are. Don't they also trigger seizures? |
Hi Margo! Fellow migraneur here and doing much better as you are. I still get them occasionally, but I consider them the 'minor' migraines, not the emergency room migraines. Many emergency room trips in my lifetime!
I don't have an answer for you about the icons, but hope that one of the moderators comes along and can answer that for you. Welcome to NeuroTalk! It's a wonderful group of people and I think you might just be a wonderful contributor as well! |
Welcome to NeuroTalk, Margo!
Here's a link to the headaches forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32 And remember, there is a nifty search tool up there in the blue bar to help you locate specific topics/issues. Jump in anywhere, the water is warm! Welcome again. |

Hi, George, welcome to you, too! You obviously know your way around the software, so I'll be watching for you.

Welcome, and yes why?
Welcome!
I was wondering about the icons too, as I have seizures. I don't think flashing/moving things are full on triggers for me but they do make me feel kind of nauseated and my eyes and head start hurting a bit. :( I know a lot of people who are really susceptible to movement and I don't think they'd be able to use this site, which is sad coz it's really friendly and supportive! So, no bad feelings at all, but as Margo inquired why are they everywhere? Welcome again Margo! :) |
Margo, welcome to NT! Glad to have you aboard. I have Epilepsy, and am triggered easily by flashing ads online... I really hate them. When I was first started seizing, and then was dx'ed, I had an armless puter chair, and that had to change in a hurry. At least now I wouldn't hit the floor! But the icons used here have no effect on me whatsoever. For me, at least, I think the difference might be the colors.... there are no neons here, no truly bright ones. Everything is either muted or pastel. Plus, the movements are mainly very slow, nothing that really gets the eyes to hopping. I went to the headaches forum, and noticed quickly that no one there seems to use the icons at all. I had no idea they can trigger migraines, might be why I have had more recently... hmmmm. Again, welcome... and thanks for starting out with a tidbit of knowledge I needed to hear. :p Rogue P.S. I love the icons, I admit it. Those cute little faces really brighten up a post. |
