headaches, vertigo, cracked helmet :(

so I did this to my head in january, headaches and dizzyness i assume a concussion, took it easy, recovered in about 6 weeks, was back to normal, working out exercising fully

end of august did a front flip, tried to stand up had the spins, later that night lying in bed turned head to the right had the spins, I had vertigo for a few days, the vertigo is now gone, but since then I have had headaches and light dizzyness -- 125 days of headaches

seen two neuroligsts they told me tension head aches, i dont believe it, i never had headaches really before, and tension headaches dont explain dizziness

i just dont know what to do any more, the past 4 months have been the worst of my life thats

I am slowly making my way through stickys and other threads can only read for so long

sohidt,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. You experience sounds familiar. The doctors comments are not uncommon either.

It sounds like you make have exacerbated your old injury, especially an unresolved upper neck injury. Upper neck injuries such as those associated with a concussion often cause headaches and many other concussion symptoms. Not many doctors can help with the subtle neck injuries common ton concussions.

Upper cervical chiros can help and some uniquely gifted physical therapists can help. But, it takes a lot of discipline when sleeping and resting for the upper neck to heal and strengthen. Sleeping with your head and neck in a straight position is very important. It takes months to see improvements.

You may not have any soreness or stiffness in your neck. The issue is usually just some inflammation that puts pressure on cervical and cranial nerves and arteries.

Your activity level will need to be cut back to allow time to heal. No flips or other gyrations.

If you have any other symptoms, feel free to post them. How did you suffer your concussion last January ?

I notice the head aches the most when I wake up in the morning, if I go out I don't notice it as much, maybe cause Im.not focusing on it or the neck is loosened up from moving around.

Thank you so much for that response, it actually makes so Much sense. And helped so much gives me some hope. These headaches are very similar to the concussions ones I had but I didn't hit my head this time around so I didn't understand

Do you think urea worth it to get a an x Ray or MRI on my upper spine/neck ?

Mark in Idaho 12-26-2015 12:57 PM

No. An X-ray or MRI will not help. Very few know how to read them to see the subtle problem. An Upper Cervical Chiro would have a specialized x-ray technique to see the problem. The subtle upper neck injury is not something a doctor will fix. They may be able to help you fix it by mobilizing C-1 and C-2 but you would need to be disciplined when you sleep or rest to maintain good neck posture.

If it is a problem when you wake up, it sounds like you are sleeping with your head and neck in a bad posture. Pillows that provide too much head lift are problematic. I sleep with minimal lift from my pillow.

A crack in a helmet has no specific bearing on your injury. Many low speed (non-motorcycle) helmets are designed to break as a part of the energy absorption. Your head and or neck can suffer an injury with or without a helmet.
