Probiotics

Hi there,
Has anyone found what Dr. Perlmutter recommends for probiotics.
I saw the list, but not a particular product line.
Do you all have any suggestions?
TIA

Hi Baba222

Here's a link to Labdoor (independent lab testing) results for probiotics.

https://labdoor.com/rankings/probiotics

I recently purchased two different brands from iherb: Lactobif by California Gold Nutrition - (sample pack) and Nutrition Now PB8. (if you want to see specific probiotic types and ingredients search iherb and zoom in on the product labels).

So far I've only tried the Lactobif and what I've been doing is opening a capsule and adding it to the mix when I make up home-made yoghurt. (ie: 1 capsule per 1 litre) The probiotics multiply naturally in the yoghurt. I've noticed that my stomach has been more settled since starting this (better than with just the plain acidophilus yoghurt).

Sometimes if you're not used to taking probiotics they can cause stomach problems as your gut flora adjusts. Try taking 1 every few days at first then increase to daily over a few weeks if you have problems. All the best with finding a probiotic that suits you.

I'm sold on the Healthy Orgins 30Billion CFU's product and it gets an A on the above rankings. I think I'll buy the Large bottle so I don't have to buy it so often. iherb and pureformulas are my sources.

I don't want to be without these, I have no stomach issues to speak of, and believe too the DGL I'm on for a few years does good things too.

I came across this company recently and have been considering ordering my own custom powder: http://www.customprobiotics.com/. I've not used their product yet though, so I can't speak to the quality or lack thereof, but I like the concept of being able to customize the strains and keep it pure.

Thank you...

Hi all,
I appreciate all the responses. I am going to try the NOW 50 one.
Hope you are all doing okay.

I use the Custom Probiotics brand. I have tried both the Acidophilus and Bifidus and the D-Lactate Free powder. They both work pretty well for me. I prefer the D-Lactate free one. I also take Saccharomyes Boulardii from Jarrow. None of these have the strains that cause histamine reactions if you are histamine sensitive.

Interesting. Could you perhaps say a little more about precisely how they've been helpful for you? I was thinking of the D-Lactate Free powder. More so though I was thinking ordering one with Bifidus infantis, Bifidus Lactis and Lactobacilus Plantarum. Also, do you per chance know the source of the probiotics?

They work for me in that I am on high doses of antibiotics and haven't had any yeast overgrowth issues, which can happen to people on antibiotics. They aren't too expensive but have a pretty good CFU count. 100 billion CFUs a day are recommended for people on antibiotics. I don't know the source of these, however.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear they're working great for you. I'll give it a try. I eat saurkraut all the time and it makes a very immediate and noticeable difference with each meal.
