Ok, I just got redirected here from the alcohol board.
I am seeking off-board communication with persons who have held interventions for alcoholic loved ones. If you've been there done that, please send me a private message. I will totally respect your privacy.
There may come a time when I can offer support in return. Right now I can only focus on our own nightmare. HELP!!! |
Welcome to NeuroTalk, Older Sister. Kudos to you for stepping up to save your loved one. It is a difficult road, but well worth your efforts. I'll see what I can do to rally the troops.
In the meantime, please feel free to look around and jump in anywhere you feel you might find help. I admire your determination, many can use an advocate like you.:) |
Thanks.
I'm hoping to do most of the discussion related to this problem by private message or email. It's a toss up which is more urgent; getting the alcoholic into treatment, or the most seriously harmed of the fallout victims. I'm going to an al-anon meeting 30 miles away tonight, to protect my own privacy. I really need to vent about all that's been happening. |
Older Sister
I am not one that has any idea about anythign to do with Alcohol. But I do know a lot about issues of needing to vent, issues of depression, needing to talk to others. And just wanting to be heard. If you find that you need someone to just talk too in private. Please feel free to pm me. I am more than willing to listen. I will see if I can figure out a way to find some help for you with the alcoholic side of this too though. Donna |
Hi Older Sister and bless your heart for this. My best friend is a recovering alcoholic for 20 years now. Her brother finally forced her into a hospital but at the time she was at death's door and had no choice.
I'm wondering if you posted in the Forum Feedback section if you might get attention to your request there. I'm not sure where to send you at all. The index of all of the forums is here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/index.php. Hugs and best of luck. |
I have a dear friend who...
has had long-standing issues in this quarter and I would first see if there are any good hospital detox programs or other programs in the area. Detox is the first and most important aspect to start with, then the follow-up support is hardest to find good programs and help with family relations..
I do know that for some folks, AA is not the way to go. Here is an article that highlights some alternatives. AA programs' quality, I am told, varies from meeting group to meeting group. For many it's a substitute crutch, which it should not be, in my view. HOpe this helps! - j http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...ternative.html |
