If a symptom doesn't last 24 hours is it not from MS?

I have read that symptoms last anywhere from 24 hours to several weeks or more. If you have a transient symptom....like a weakness in your legs or a stiffness in a hand, but it doesn't last 24 hours, is it not from MS?
Thanks!

Hi Pharmgirlkelly,

That idea is one I've heard, and apparently some neurologists are saying that, but that's not the way my symptoms often are.
Some of the worst ones have been very fleeting.

I've read many posts by people who have MS and have symptoms that don't last 24 hours.

It is possible for symptoms to last less than 24 hours. It is not uncommon and simply a part of living with MS.

When referring to symptoms lasting longer than 24 hours this is in reference to an exacerbation (relapse, attack, flare-up).

An exacerbation is old symptoms and/or new symptoms lasting continuously for more than 24 hours. For it to be considered a new exacerbation it needs to be 30 days from when the previous exacerbation ended. These are guidelines.
