Destructive Brain Attack
So a quick recap: In jan 2014 i had a soccer accident and suffered a concussion. I was going to college at the time and decided to finish the year out in school because of the money i had invested in it. While in school i had plenty of symptoms and sought medical help multiple times (I had 2 e.r. visits). Every time i was told i had anxiety. But as the year progressed my symptoms progressed and why i stayed in school i dont know why. When i found this forum and understood the severity of my situation it was already too late. Through 2014 i struggle to function until in october 2014 my brain crashed.
I had (keep having) seizure like attacks in the middle of the night where i would wake up and have shaking like attack where i see lights and flashing images. My body is not shaking but my brain gives me the feeling that i am shaking because i am stuck in place so i know i am not physically shaking. This usually happens at night after a lot of strong stimulation during the day and has these attacks have only happened once to me during the day. I know for sure it is not a panic attack because i have had those before and it is not a seizure because i am awake and i had an eeg come out negative. The problem is that it destroys any cognitive ability i have the next day, because it lives my tired and brain locked. I have had these since october 2014 multiple times and to this day i have not been able to stare at any screen since october 2014 and i am not able to type this thread out for you guys i have my bother typing it out for me. If anyone has any experience with this or knows something similar to this that would be great and greatly appreciated. I am taking megamen's vitamin in the morning, omega 3 fish oil during the day and early afternoon b12. Any advice towards nutrition would be helpful too, Thank you. |
A sleep study may help as I used to have strange problems when my Central Sleep Apnea was a problem. I first became aware of my CSA during an EEG with a sleep session when my breathing stopped.
Here is a wearable monitor that reports to a smartphone that may give you some ideas if O2 levels are involved. http://www.amazon.com/Withings-WAM01...pulse+oximeter If you suffer a oxygen deprived sleep, the next day would be miserable, at least it was for me. EEG's are not conclusive. They only tell you that you did not have a problem during the EEG. Some have had 24 hour and longer EEGs. Have you had an assessment by a behavioral optometrist ? https://nora.cc/ has referrals. Convergence and other eye dysfunctions can cause a myriad of issues. |
I have seen ophthalmologist and they say there is nothing they can do for me and i have seen 2 ear nose throat doctors who told me not to have surgery to fix deviated septum. I was told to have get a sleep study but i can no longer afford it. I am going to look into the monitors, so thank you for the suggestion, to sleep better at night. unfortunately a lack of oxygen is not causing these attacks or else they would happen more often.

Sounds like you need to lay off of the stimulation until your brain is healed.

The ophthalmologist is not usually much help but a neuro-ophthalmologist or preferably a behavioral optometrist would be worth the effort.
If you do have sleep apnea, it can make PCS miserable. It is also know to be a cause of Mild Cognitive Impairment. It can slowly take away cognitive functioning. I get my best sleep in a recliner where I have less chance of apnea episodes. My dreams are better. I wake refreshed. My breathing is so much better after having my deviated septum repaired along with a reducing in size of the turbinates. The ENT thinks I shattered my septum during my bike accident. I used to get bloody noses during the winter. No more.... If the brain is not getting good oxygen during sleep, everything works poorly. Do you take bouts with sleepiness during the day ? |
Definitely don't want to over stimulate but doing nothing wont yield me much. I have consulted with multiple specialists on how the brain function and the vision part of the brain and are stumped and don't know what to do with me. They have just recommended medications to me.
I don't usually get very sleepy during the day but i do take b12 at midday because i do wear down by midday. But i cannot nap even if i wanted during the day. Is it safe to get septoplasty (nose surgery) with this condition? p.s. i have never had surgery before. |
My septoplasty went very well last Oct 7, much better than my shoulder surgery. Prepare to need pain meds for day 2 to 4. Then, just ibuprofen. But, by 2 weeks after, you will be saying, Why didn't I do this long ago? Well worth the few days of discomfort.

I had the same issues while sleeping. I would wake and feel like I had just been in a fight. The doctors put me on amitriptyline and this mostly disappeared. I can still have issues when really overstimulated.

Allday,
I used to have strange episodes during sleep too. Don't know what they were about but like doozer I felt like I had done battle with something and would wake from those episodes in a panic. I don't have anything like that now but I do believe it was overstimulation related and when that was going on it took very little to overstimulate me! Bud |
They tried nortriptyline on me and my toes started to swell up and turned red so the doctor told me to stop taking them. Now i am going to try topamax. Do you think that a vitamin regimen will help me and if so what would be a good vitamin regimen. Can you also put at what time i should take each vitamin.
