A big comprimise for my husband and I
I was supposed to go down to Lexington Ky for my grand babies baby dedication. This is a very important part of my Church upbringing life. My husband didn't have that and sees no purpose in it. I was going to leave this Wednesday morning and come back Friday eve after supper. Well my pantry work this past weekend did me in. I did get a lot of rest Tuesday. But I still wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go. I did know that if I had to call my daughter and cancel out, I would have sit on the couch and just bawled my eyes out. I do not want MS to take that away from me. Lexington is a short 3hour drive, same intersate that leaves right from here. So it's not a complicated drive. But I was still exhausted Monday night. My husbad is one of those that sees no purpose in a woman to put herself in harms way by driving by herself on and interstate. Especially if that woman is tired.
So I told him that IF I went that it would be an abbreviated stay, leave Wednesday after lunch and come back Thursday after Luch. So I set my alarm for 10 AM Wednesday morning. Well I can have some pretty vivid dreams. Unfortunately Tuesday night I dreamt I got some IV Lasix. For those of you that don't know what that is, it is a powerful water pill only in IV form. Well, it made me literally made me get up every two hours and go to the bathroom. The power of a dream. So about 9:15 AM on Wednesday AM, I am exhausted. I am about ready to call my daughter and cancel. But I thought that I am not, just not, going to let MS take this little trip away from me. So I went back to bed for another two hours. I felt rested but I went withought a shower. I figured my grand baby wouldn't mind. So off I went, had a good time and God provided the shower for me! And I drove up to our home right as my husband was coming from work and we went out to a nice place to eat so that he could see that I was still functioning. I will not give in!!!!!!!! |
Good for you, girlie! How was the ceremony??
|
Good for you! I am proud of you for going. You only have that chance once. Enjoy them. ;)
How was the ceremony? |
The baby dedication went OK I guess. My kids go to what they call a 'seeker friendly' church. I am used to a good ol' gospel church singing The Old rugged cross. They have a praise band and there is no congregational singing on Sunday mornings at all because they don't want to make any 'seekers' feel ill at ease. So the format is very casual. Because this was on the July 4th, they had it outside. Well about a half hour into it, the praise band was still playing, it started pouring! So they went to plan B. We were all squashed in the foyer of thier large building.
But I know my kids will raise thier precious little one in the church. They are part of the leaders of the church. She is one of the childrens directors. She freaks me out when she says that they have like 200 children in the preschool department alone on a Sunday morning or Wednesday eve. My church doesn't even have that many people attending. |
Doydie, It's okay, your kids and grandkids will be fine at that church. I know it's not one that you would chose but as long as they are happy that's what really counts.
We happen to belong to a church that sounds a little like what your describing, some differences.....we have a worship band (it rocks the rafters of the building) and anyone can sing along. There are some who come to take a look at what this church is about some remain and some move on......all are welcome. This church is non-denominational. It's known as the church that doesn't look like a church.....it's just an old building in the old part of "downtown." This is a small church but large with very kind people. I know many still like the original type churches but what brings many young people to God, to church is the change to casual and the music. Music is what most young people (and some old) are into. If you have never experienced or heard of "Aquire the fire" then it's hard for me to explain. Churches and organizations such as "Battle Cry" are reaching out to kids and making a difference. I am okay with the changes some of these churches are making.....the younger generation is wanting to go to church and like you kids they are getting involved......that's a really good thing. Christian music now encomposus (sp) different music genres......Rap, metal, rock ect. |
Well, Doydie, it sounds like the babe was doubly Christened! ;)
I'm just happy for you that it was possible for you to be there for it. Missing that would have been hard on your spirit. You guys won't believe this, but I go to a year-round drive-in church! I was raised to dress for church and feel that it's a way to honor God, but when it got to be more than I could handle, I found this one. I pull into a spot and tune my radio to a closed-circuit broadcast that is done from an alter that is actually a glass-enclosed studio. In summer, it's wide open but can be closed up for winter. It's a little odd at first, but pretty cool, a lot of handicapped people love it like I do. It's non-denom and has a good praise band that doesn't get too wild. With no sanctuary to maintain, our membership can easily stay in a budget. There is a small building used for Bible studies, after-service coffee, children's activities and administration/pastors' offices, but the bulk of the congregation rarely enters it. I don't currently feel a need for close relationships with my church family, but if I did, I know I could find it there just by naming my car.;) It's pretty funny during communion or a collection when a guy in a snowmobile suit comes to your window! |
Cindy: I like that idea of your drive-in church. One of them around here used to do that in the summer, but I don't think they do anymore. It's perfect for the handicapped and elderly -- plus you don't have to worry about "keeping up with the Jones'" with what clothes you wear.
doydie: I'm really happy for you that you got to your grandbabies' dedication. There will probably come a time down the road (personal experience) when it won't be possible, so do all you can to enjoy now! Like you, I'm used to the old fashioned gospel church. Actually I played the piano and/or organ and directed the choir for years -- but my youngest in Ohio attends one of the mega churches with a praise band, worship team, etc., and loves it. If it wasn't for that style, I'm sure she, and others, wouldn't be attending at all. To each his own! It's great you and your hubby worked out the compromise -- and you even got a dinner out of the bargain! Take care!! |
I am so glad you were able to go to your G'baby's ceremony, Doydie. It seems that we miss so many other things; it was nice to hear that you won this one. Plus, a dinner out w/hubby. :Tip-Hat:
My church is small, but the hearts in it are HUGE. It doesn't matter what denomination you are; it's what's in your heart that counts.... Way to go, Doydie!!!! |
