Running down stairs - new injury?
Hello everyone,
Around 6 days ago I was in my apartment when I heard my son calling from our backyard. I thought something was wrong so I ran down the stairs and jumped every second step. I live on the second floor, so it was 2 levels I ran down. Since then my health has slowly deteriorated. I am now getting dizzy when I try to read and I am having this Salling sensation and my eyes are strained. I think that my neck/head could not tolerante that I skipped every second step, and I am now afraid that I have made a new injury. But I am also confused because it didnt hurt and in the beginning I didnt think anything of it. It worries me that it is just getting worse, because my setbacks usually only takes around 5-6 days. Have anyone tried this? Should I be worried that this is a new injury and should I stop making neck exercises because of this? I am so confused and sad... |
I don't think that you've re-injured yourself. It sounds like your brain and/or neck just aren't ready yet for that type of movement yet.
I had a situation where I jarred my head biking a while back and it set me back for a while. It sounds like a similar situation. I suggest taking curcumin. I know that it helps me with the head sensitivity. |
Whenever I go down the steps too fast, my dizzy and vision issues increase significantly. I am still learning to go really slow down the steps, but sometimes I do forget and I pay for it all day.

I wouldn't think you could re injure yourself....I would say a disturbance in the force maybe but not injury. It took me quite awhile before I could take bumps in the road or even walking without a real setback. Sounds like concerned parenting to me. Bud |
I too have been through periods of my head feeling sensitive to walking and such. I never was worried about it being more injury though.

.... for taking time to answer me. I am better again after a visit to my PT. It appears that everytime I do something my neck cant tolerate (jumping, running eg), then my neck muscles will tense up - but my PT can help with Myofascial release.
I think I have a weakness in my neck or it can be CNS related. Probably it creates inflammation which takes time to subseed. I will write my thoughts another day but thanks:-) |
I also get these feelings of having a new concussion or other PCS related symptoms from moving my head from one side to another really fast. (Had a couple of concussions in the past) I recommend you check out the concept of "Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo" aka BPPV which is essentially an imbalance of the balance center in your innerear. This causes massive feelings of dizziness, confusion and sometimes people throw up. Its often usual after a concussion/whiplash to get this and people stay in a constant PCS situation because the doctor has little experience with it and doesnt check for it. I myself is diagnosed with this as I have done tests to the eyes where you can see that my eyes are going from one side to another trying to find the balance when my head is tilted backwards and to one side. its my left inner ear which cause the problem. my right ear is ok. I didnt understand the logic behind this at first, but apparently there is many people going untreated by this. Google it and you will understand (I am new to the forum so cannot post links yet, sorry)

That being said, BPPV is not dangerou it is completely safe and cause no danger to your health. It only cause dizzyness/vertiog and worrying.
It can cause anxiety as people are seeking an answer to what is going on with their minds, but treatment is good and well documented. |
